It's Official...Shane Nastahowski is a Temple Owl...UCONN loses another top Connecticut recruit! Him and Matakevich will be a thorn in UCONN side for poor recruiting practices. Not even an offer .

Nastahowski graduated Greenwich last year. Was All State junior and Senior year MLB and RB. All metro team .MSG Player of Year. Ranked #6 Linebacker in nation. Prepped at Milford Academy this past fall. UCONN's loss!

#6 linebacker in the nation? by who? It doesn't look like he has any other 1A offers and he was only the #9 player in connecticut in 2012 so I think you're mistaken

Maybe another Graham Stewart? Transfer home when head coaching change is made in 14'?

That was not the academic case for this kid. He made a verbal to Akron and then there was a major coaching change. He waited for UCONN . They watched him and talked BS

Sounds like he might have been an academic question mark.

I really don't mean to knock the kid, but he verballed Akron. At least for the moment that's viewed as a step down from UConn both athletically and academically. I don't knock the coaches for not recruiting guys just because they are from Connecticut. If the kid is good enough we'll find out we made an error. Unfortunate but it happens.

No offense, but you sound like one of those whiny CT HS school coaches that used to b!tch and moan about Edsall. Sometimes, kids are just not good enough.

Plus the UConn Admissions people have a problem with Milford Academy. Rightly or wrongly, they tend to look at it as a bogus institution. I don't know that much about it, so I can't say, but UConn rarely accepts Milford kids.

Care to elaborate on the "poor recruiting practices"? Aside from, you know, the obvious that you already stated....no offer.

I wish young Mr. Nastahowski the best of luck in his college education as an athlete at the division 1-A level. Always good to see a local kid get a ticket.

Can you actually lose something you don't want in the first place?

Honestly, Nastahowski may end up to be Dick Butkus, and I wish him nothing but the best, but why does this board attract these whiny crybabies complaining about losing a kid who we didn't offer and whom no one else who we view at being at our level or higher offered either?

Nothing against him, but we are stacked at LB. How many can we take? Took Hicks and Sylva last year. This year, Jasudowich and Joseph are 3 star kids and the Walsh kid from Hand looks like a stud - plus the guys on the roster Claxx, etc.

It's a weak year for LB's. ;)

Matakevich was never offered by Uconn and wanted to play here as well as Nastahowski. You say "kids are just not good enough" but Nastahowski emerged as Temple's best linebacker as a "True" Freshmen recording:

15 tackles, 19 tackles against U-Conn, 10 tackles, 10 tackles, 10 tackles, 8 tackles , 13 tackles, and 14 tackles... U-Conn thought he wasn't good enough!

From what I heard Natahowski was a better player than Matakevich at Milford, so Temple will have two great Connecticut players! If anything the reason they were not offered has to be grades not skill.
