After finishing his Connecticut high school football career, linebacker
Shane Nastahowski decided that he wanted more exposure. That led him to New Berlin (N.Y.) Milford Academy, where he hopes the extra time will catch the attention of more college coaches.
"Recruiting is moving along ok," said Nastahowski. "I just hope it gets a little better, but the schools that seem really interested are Penn State and UMass so far. Hopefully it picks up."
UConn is one specific school that he hopes will show more interest.
"I'm going to ask my coach to see if they called him, but that's a school I'm definitely interested in," said Nastahowski.
The 6-foot-2, 220 pound linebacker explained why UConn has peaked his interest.
"I like that it's close to home and I also have a lot of friends that go there," he said. "I also like the coaching staff as well."
Nastahowski detailed the reasons that he ended up at Milford Academy and how his season has progressed.
"I prepped to get more looks, offers and to get better grades, even though I was already cleared," he said. "My prep season is going well personally, despite our 4-4 record. I'm leading the team in tackles and we beat Princeton JV yesterday, which was our toughest opponent so far."
His time at Milford has helped Nastahowski improve certain parts of his game.
"I feel like my tackling technique has improved as well as my pass rush, even tough it's not where I want it to be yet," he said. "My size definitely needs to improve. I would love to gain some more weight and strength. I also could brush up on my speed and running technique, as well as shedding off blockers."
Nastahowski will travel to Happy Valley this Saturday for the Penn State game against Ohio State.
UConnReport.com will continue to stay in touch with Nastahowski to see if the Huskies begin to show more interest.
