Watching the game on Watch ESPN right now and the announcer just mentioned that with Bazz's assist to NG (who is a smoking 7/7 behind the arc through 1.5 games) he officially passed Kemba on UConn's all time assist list.

The heading on your post is misleading. Bazz may have passed Kemba in assists, but Kemba was not #1 in career assists. That title belongs to Taliek. Not sure where Kemba is on the list, but regardless it's a great accomplishment for Bazz. Does anybody know haw many career assists Taliek and Bazz have ??

Kemba was 10th: http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools...11-12/misc_non_event/historicalsupplement.pdf

722 Taliek Brown
677 Tate George
619 Kevin Ollie
559 Doron Sheffer
534 Karl Hobbs
510 Marcus Williams
510 Ricky Moore
479 Khalid El-Amin
469 A.J. Price
460 Kemba Walker

Shabazz now has 469 and is tied with AJ.
by my count there are 29 games left.

if we assume that Shabazz averages 5 assists per game for the rest of the season, that would give him an additional 145 assists, putting him at 614 overall.

for those of you unfamiliar with math, it is rather trivial to show that the error on this calculation is +/- 5assists. choosing the upper bound would give him 619 assists, tying him with guess who...Kevin Ollie.

ergo, concordantly, vis-a-vis...we will have some serious mojo going for us if my calculations are correct (which they always are).

If they only play 29 more games that was an awfully bad season.

He has an outside shot at the record. He's at 469 right now, meaning he needs 253 assists to tie the record. UConn has at least 30 games remaining on the schedule, and that's assuming we fail to reach the postseason or win a game in the AAC tournament. Realistically, UConn probably has about 35 games left, meaning if he averages a little over 7 assists this season and stays healthy, the all-time record could be his. It's unlikely, but his court vision is at an all-time best, he's going to play a ton of minutes, and he's never had close to this many surrounding weapons before.

Some of the passes he throws are just ridiculous. Rondo-esque

He could land in the top 5 in scoring and assists. Should definitely be top 10 in both. UNREAL

Taliek was at 469 by the end of his junior year. He ended up recording 253 in 39 games. Would be amazing if Shabazz reached Taliek.

Taliek doesn't get enough credit for how good of a true point guard he was

Taliek will always be my all time favorite PG. He was an unstoppable tank on the floor, a great leader. Mr hustle.

Suffered from turf toe a good part of his sophomore year plus had to deal with the shooting death of a friend. Got an NCAA championship senior year. Foot injury sophomore year - championship senior year. Can lightening strike twice?

Nice piece on TB.

He has a good chance to pass 3 of his coaches on the all time assist list. It's nice to be able to say that :).

who was Taliek passing to?
Well he had a lot of egos to please, but I say managed them well. He was the senior point guard leader, I feel required with that group. Not sure if they would have followed an underclassmen, especially having all that pro talent.

He knew what JC wanted and executed it accordingly. Perfect pg for that team, I feel.

Taliek had 253 assists his senior year, over 39 games, 6.5 assists per game, for the 2004 championship team. Shabazz is already two games in, the conference tourney may be shorter by a game, and it will be hard to win a championship in an up year for college ball. So he'll probably need to average at least 7.5 a game to pass Taliek.

If he aimed to do it, he could. But KO will probably ask him to score more.

If the weapons on the team begin to emerge as the year goes on, Bazz has a decent shot at the all-time record, IMO. Deandre is going to be important. If he can start posting up and knocking down shots, that will help. He's gonna get a few easy ones to Amida on alley oops. He has shooters in Neils / Omar. He and Boat have good interplay between each other.

If others can score so that Bazz doesn't have to be relied on for scoring and carrying the load, then he has an outside shot at the all-time record.

Either way, it will be fun to watch as Bazz approaches KO's assist mark. If he passes him, that will be great to witness.
