One could say he had a Chris Smith program type impact, helping turn our blood blue.

Not sure who has seen this clip but the last time I saw players looking this lost was in a Barry Sanders highlight.

Shabazz is sooooo underrated, even by our fans.

Think about it: does anyone give him as much “credit” as Kemba? Kemba was more exciting, more explosive, was the first to make the run…but Shabazz is the greatest PG in our programs history, from a pure PG perspective and his resume, accomplishments, etc.

I don’t want to make too many crazy declarations, but he’s in my top 2 with Ray. Kemba is right there too, but EVERYONE remembers what Kemba did.

I also saw him in person that season. That 14 run was more improbable too.

Shabazz was a winner. Others may have been better basketball players, but no one was more of a winner.

As far as college players go, I’d take him over most. His ability to win games single-handedly is unmatched. Think about all those bombs he launched from 30 feet when we desperately needed a bucket. He was completely fearless and had the skills to back it up.

Covid really messed up his NBA career. At the time of the shutdown, he was having (imo) the best season of his career. Double digit scoring while splitting time between starting PG and 6th man. Was probably just under 30 years old at the time so hitting his peak

But then the NBA shut down, he was on a bad team that didn’t make the bubble, contract ran out and he didn’t get another shot again.

He still is special, just won a championship with Niles. There is no doubt he could be playing in the NBA still, the Knicks shouldve signed him that's one example right there.

I'll say this right now when we have our 20th anniversary for the 2014 team Ollie will be on campus. Shabazz will make it happen. No I do not intend to turn this into a KO thread, just my own prediction.

You mean the Cowboys game where he ran to the right and like 10 Cowboys were on the ground Emmit Smith saying "he's behind ya Tony!"

And hit it at 18:47 for Emmit's take on that run..

Bazz had onions when the game was on the line. Usually delivered. CBB and Pro. A winner making winning plays

Same with Sanogo (but to a lesser extent).

Ultimate floor general, lights out shooter, onions galore. His ability and feel to. know when to take over with those back breaking hesitation threes in the tourney was a thing of beauty. I was in grad school during that run so didn't get a chance to go, but had a blast going to all the uconn game watch parties in Boston. Very memorable run.

This cat was so smooth. The prettiest game of a PG as well. Marcus is the only guy who can compare to him, aesthetically. Just my opinion.

He got a raw deal in the NBA, what was it, with the Blazers?
That's just one example why the NBA sucks. There is height discrimination unless you are exceptionally a top player like an Iverson.

I love Bazz, a winner, a champion, a man who stuck with us when other players bailed.

I love so many players that chose UConn, and a bunch of them were PGs who knew how to win

We're blessed
