Seton HeII Post Game Thread

The Big East is only getting 3 or 4 bids max. If we finish forth or fifth with our limited quality wins, we're out.

Dan Hurley definitely lost the portal and recruiting magic touch this season. I think Lukr Murray may be the key to the Hurley magic. He goes, we could be in big trouble long-term.
As of now we’re in the tournament. I have no doubt this team will beat Nova and probably Marquette at home too. They get up for those games and those teams aren’t particularly good either. We’ll see.

As of your second point. You lost me.

We did not deserve to win this game. Couldn’t in bound the ball.
But again there was a definite foul on McNeeley going to the hoop and Solo Ball got tripped.

No one is looking. You think they are looking.

You see it's simple. I can craPP on my team or I can CRapp on the refs. Both had poor games. My choice is to craPP on the refs.
Ok, we can agree to disagree. Not saying the refs were good, I’m just saying there were a lot of other reasons pointing to this loss.

Where have you seen that on Defense? He is atrocious covering pick n rolls.
He gets lost far too often. He also never gets the ball thrown into him on the block and he's being jerked around on playing time. Hurley decided Samson is the starter no matter what, he heaps effusive praise on Samson constantly despite his shortcomings and Tarris has largely become an afterthought. If he's in the game he's only eating by getting the ball himself on offensive rebounds.

Meh.

The sophomores aren’t very good - like, really, not very good. We have one spot up shooter in the bunch and none of them can do anything else.

If they’re keeping these freshmen on the bench, we need to question why we’re recruiting a half dozen players who can’t play.
Yep Ross is a level above what he should be playing and Stewart is just a jump shooter who only takes 3s. Neither is good defensively. I do disagree on Ball as he has started to drive more but he has to make those layups.

And then some gimmicky football play that is usually used for teams to do some desperation scoring. Not to simply inbound it.

Yet that gimmicky play resulted in two wide open players, one of which (Hass) was 6ft away from the inbounded, and a perfect 8/8 from the line and our best ball handler.

This game was a choke job from start to finish by everybody involved from coach to players

.-.
I mean we were hacked or tripped on 2-3 or or attempts to inbound the ball and didn't get a foul call...
See if this weren’t an ongoing problem I would understand that but the inability to inbounds the ball has been an issue forever.

The offense is really not tailored to our strengths right now. I agree we need to get the ball inside more for easier shots. We only have one really creator with the ball and he is hobbled on one leg right now. Just a bunch of jump shooters who if shot is not falling we are in trouble. Though if Tarris doesn't play good D he is coming out. Hurley is like Calhoun. He doesn't really care what you bring on offense unless you are some great offensive player like Ray Allen but if you don't play D you aren't getting minutes.

My question is , is Stewart only a jump shooter because that’s what he’s being asked to do? I think there is more in there.

I’m not even sure I’d say big. When need a big lead guard who can defended and a couple of athletes who can defend. Abraham may be able to fill that role. The guard will have to come from the portal. We have enough skill finesse guys. I’d expect Ball and Stewart to be really good next year.
We expected Stewart to be really good this year. What have you seen this year that makes you think he will be “really” good next year?

If you keep giving the other team chances by throwing away the ball or getting stripped ot not knowing how to inbound when rhe game is online, I don't care who the opponent may be. It could have been a high school team . Eventually they would win.

In all my years watching the Husky’s this was one of top 5 bad losses of all time.

It was who and how we lost the Game Today.

We had many teams with far less talent that lost games but fought tooth and nail to grind it out. Teams that never made deep runs in tourney. Teams that played with a lot less fanfare in the AAC.

None that I can remember wilted like this - they lost sure - but that was a bit of a tarnish on us as a brand.
Nah, some of those late KO teams got absolutely shelled and were just going through the motions.

If, that call on Ball was called (99% of the time it is) the tarnished word would not even be mentioned. I have been watching UConn since the Tony Hansen days and I've seen many bad losses in that time. This can be one of them. But to tarnish the brand, it does not. I guess our next recruiting class should just portal then.

Yeah he never looks to drive or try to post up which I think he can do. We need him to step up offensively as we are challenged when not making our outside shots.

His progression as a shooter is real. I believe he needs a longer leash to play through mistakes. I still think he’s gonna be really good for us

If they come back i hope there are a lot better players in front of them as they don't look like ones that can contribute muc

The lack of development in the sophomores, point guard depth issues after swinging and missing on Mahaney/Nowell, and over-reliance on Samson are the roster construction issues that keep coming up in these losses.

I don't this some people understand how bad of a loss this was. We are trending to be a bubble team. Positive thoughts and past seasons will not save this team.

Not making the tournament to defend our titles is a complete failure by the team and coaches.
This loss sucks no doubt but we are not a bubble team yet. The bubble is horrible as usual this year. If UNC is a bubble team right now, we are comfortably in. Winning at Creighton was huge in hindsight

Question. Did struggling Seton Hall play like a team good enough to be top 25.

Yes. Uconn is not great this year, but are no hirrible either. Obviously, Seton Hall won this game for a reason.

Was it particular match ups?

Defensive game plan?

Offensive game plan?

Or was Seton Hall just lucky tonight?

Hurley has found one truly great PG, two decent ones and then not much of anything else. It's a bit concerning.

Nah, some of those late KO teams got absolutely shelled and were just going through the motions.
They were losing to teams with similar or better talent levels and with a poor coaching staff, this 2024-2025 team has no business losing to that SH team, they are awful. It's not even like SH played above their level or out of their minds, they had 50 points with a minute left in regulation.

The stank from today, will be with us for quite some time.

That was an unreal nightmare of a loss - the careless missteps, the lack of discipline and the utter boneheadness of the way we lost is not something to be swept aside, nor should it.

We got over the top great performances from Ball then McNeeley. Without that we lose both games.
That's the problem. We need stellar play from one of them to compete against better teams, and if not then we cannot make mistakes and play solid defense against the meh teams.
