Those silent timeouts with Coach absolutely livid and staring at his players were terrifying even from the stands. I can't imagine being in that huddle. As I recall, they tended to work too.
I think the silent treatment almost worked the best - when coach was too angry to even yell.

Until AK does to against good competition. The jury is still out. It was nice to see the ball go in. But Seton Hall stinks. We lost but they are awful, were just worse. We need to see Alex perform at. high level against high level competition before we proclaim his shot has returned.

He’s not some untested freshman that just had a good cupcake game. You’re talking about a guy that’s made key plays on two national championship runs. If he’s broken his slump, the level of cometition won‘t matter.

There‘s been a fair amount of posts in this thread about how this loss was bad, but not “that bad.” That there were other losses in our past that were worst, I’ve read.

I’ve been responding that I don’t think this is the case.

Well, I just read an article how this is the worst loss of all time by a defending champion when you look at Seton Hall’s Ken Pom rating of 213.

So we can stop pretending that his was just a bump in the road, this was a historically poor performance - one that yes, hurts our brand.

It isn’t just that we lost but it’s the way we lost.

I don’t think I would let Mahaney see the ball again this season except for practice.
I would take Ball off the floor more - no more than 30 minutes. He’s a liability when he’s tired.
Bring in some bench players, and have players earn time on floor.

The old Jim Calhoun approach involved a quick hook for bonehead plays. Didn’t care whether your were a role player or a star.

After than 2nd messed up inbounds I would have loved to see him sub out all 5 on the floor for 5 players sitting on the bench - LOVED It.

Channel a little JC Hurley! The last 2 teams did not need this approach.

This one does!

I was working Saturday and missed the game live. When I got home I logged on to the Yard. I started reading and I realized the world had ended. I record every game except the Peacock games. My question is do I watch the Seton Hall game? I hate to not watch every game but this game might be the exception. Please advise.

UConn played poorly at end of regulation and overtime which cost them the game. But there were a few calls down the stretch that all went against UConn. The 2 most obvious is McNeeley got fouled going to the basket no call. Then there is a video out there that shows Solo Ball got pushed with 2 hands from behind and falls down and Hall scores winning basket. Brian ODonnel was the ref where Ball got pushed and did not blow his whistle. Yet he blows his whistle right away and calls a foul on Tarris Reed earlier on a touch foul that resulted in 2 points down stretch.
If those calls are made correctly despite UConn playing poorly at the end UConn wins the game.
I am starting to to believe there is a bias against Hurley especially at end of games.

No I would not watch it unless you want to put yourself in a bad mood not just for today but the foreseeable future :)

It was an ugly game and one in which you will watch on how UConn not only melted down but squandered leads in a way that gave SH the chance to tie and then win the game.

To be clear, Seton Hall was only ALLOWED to win this game because of UConn unexplicable bonehead plays that defy logic.

I wouldn’t expect some of these plays from a Rec team. It was that bad.

Other than solo ball our guard play has been exposing us all year, I just need solo to be tougher with the ball . The transfer mahaney has been a disappointment and he was brought in to give us high mins n shoot 3s but he has not gave us neither and his defensive liability smh , Hurley can’t even play him .. Ross don’t need to play , he gives us nothing , can’t hit an open 3 .. nowell just a freshmen so Hurley don’t fully trust that he’s ready now and diarra plays hard but we see why he was a sixth man for us , he’ll go through droughts n can’t make a shot , losing confidence in his shot or pass up shots altogether… it’s going to be tough to make another run without good to great guard play .. they the ones who can set the tone n give everybody easy shots

you must put yourself through the agony of the shu game in order to appreciate the victories. No short-cuts

Agreed.

If there is any positive from the losses at Villanova and Seton Hall is that this team has faced it’s worst fears. They lived them.

There’s got to be something a bit freeing about that - we’ll see!

Alex is generally the inbounder because he’s a good passer and makes good decisions. He’s also not a very twitchy athlete that could easily get open against his man. I don’t think the fault lies with him. We don’t have the same level of athletes to inbound to but we also seem much more stationary and stagnant out there. Hawk and Spencer were relentless in getting open.
Alex had a very good game. He’s tough, works hard and doesn’t quit. The refs hurt us down the stretch but as poorly as we played and as poorly as they reffed, we still should have won the game. I still think this loss is on the coaching staff. Everybody in the basketball world has an out of bounds play that gets the ball in bounds. Whatever they were trying to do, it looked like the first time they were trying to do it. They looked totally unprepared for the situation.

This reminds of the Bill Buckner World Series blunder.

I forgot what happened and rewatched it… Buckner’s play was the last one of a long series of screwups by other players that lead a 2-0 game in the 9th to be lost.

The inbounds play was many of several boneheaded plays that led to this one…

So many.

Solo fouling the 3 point point shot was one of the greatest shows of lack of discipline I’ve seen in awhile… Actually his getting stripped TWICE and missing a FT in last minute - those are right up there too LOL

Inbounding the ball has been a problem since Hurley has been here but I've never seen anything like the last game in all my years of watching college basketball.

@Kolumbo, I just finished watching the game and there was plenty of blame to go around but Solo really played poorly in crunch time. Missed an important free throw, failed to box out the shooter on a missed free throw and then the turnover at the end of OT. I'm not usually one to blame the refs but that no call on Liam's drive late in OT was criminal.
