-An odd take considering they came in averaging nearly 90 a game, but this team’s defense will carry them to #13. Forced 32 TOs today.

-took bad the Pirates were missing Jada Eads. Seton Hall has a nice team. The rematch later this month will be interesting.

-“We don’t have to lead the world in assists”. Geno’s quote during a timeout indicates that overpassing is a significant reason for the bump in turnovers.

-Sorry Geno, being unselfish is part of this team’s DNA. More than normal. 25 assists today.

-5 steals and 5 assists for KK. The mask did not slow her down one bit.

-Most teams would take shooting 43% from the field in the first half. UConn gets so many wide open looks that it just seems like they aren’t shooting well.
-Ash had 3 offensive rebounds giving her 25 for the year. Amazing for a guard.

-Sarah stuffed the stat sheet as is her norm but had only one TO. Must be the “bandana” look.

-Speaking of Sarah, she is now 8-11 from three in the last two games.

-Jana was solid again today. It is great to see her confidence growing.

-Always fun watching CD play. Even better when she scores.

-Fourth quarter was misleading because SH kept their starters in.

It was a bit ragged initially, and SH played some good, scrappy defense. They deserve credit for forcing 14 TOs. But the main rotation soon took the game away. Our defense throttled SH’s offense most of the game, forcing 32 TOs. In the closing minutes, the gap was closed because SH hit several open 3s. But the game was a severe blowout until then.

Jana hit 2 midrange jumpers and drained a couple FTs, ended up with 10 pts on 4-5 shooting. It’s really hard to argue with that. And she deflected a pass on a SH break — the big girl running the floor!

Allie was 4-6 from 3 for 12 points.

I think the mask did slow KK down in the first few minutes. She drove and then backed out prematurely a couple times — one led to a turnover. Then she drove through contact and scored, and that seemed to rebuild her confidence. Go KK!

It's easy to look at the final score - a 36 point win over probably the 3rd best team in the Big East, and say "great!"
  • Sarah with 18 points but not enough shots IMHO (only 11)
  • Azzi with an off shooting night but 16 points
  • I thought Jana looked really good in her minutes
  • Allie really playing solid and scoring very well
  • Great to have KK back - she's so disruptive and the engine that makes the team run...
  • The defense is elite
  • Nice seeing Carol back
But:
  • At times too much passing
  • Half court offense looked ragged at times
  • Q4 with the subs in was really messy
  • I'll be honest - I expected more from Williams this season, especially as a senior with all her hype.
Overall a nice win, but at this time of the season, IMHO Geno needs to look at areas the team is deficient and work on that for the rest of the year.

Glad CD was able to play and get on the score sheet. Sarah and Azzi are unstoppable. KK looked like her usual self. I thought Jana played very well too.

Slight cleanup on the turnovers. I think as the team continues to get into a rhythm with different players coming in and out during more “bench heavy” games like these, they will decrease even more.

I think it was about 8 minutes to go when Zahara Bishop stepped up to shoot 2 at the foul line. As the ball came back to her to shoot the second her game face went away and a very sad why are we here look peeked out. Stabbed me right in the heart.

Number 2: Seton Hall was really packing the middle for much of the game and I couldn't understand why. Anybody up to educating me?

Chalk up another win for Uconn. Again the bench scoring well. Allie is starting to perfect her 3- pointers. VERY happy to see Caroline in the and score. The defense was it's usual outstanding game which is the key to NO.13 Almost every one ate. GO HUSKIES!!!!

I was out and about so going to catch a re-run. I pulled up game on ESPN and it was typing out the play by play. I saw 3 pointer -Seton Hall, another 3 by Seton Hall. A third 3 by Seton Hall. Foul on UConn. 2 good free throws by Seton Hall. Turnover UConn. Layup by Seton Hall.

I was like, “what is Happening?”

I guess Geno played the bench against their starters.

Seton Hall is a solid team for UConn to play against. They can make us uncomfortable for spurts on offense and their press against us in the beginning had us a little off balance, but there just was never a doubt who would win comfortably.

Jana has put in a few really good games. The two makes around the foul line were fantastic. If she can keep building this confidence she could really become a weapon come tourney time.

Was equally nice to see Allie really drain her j’s today. Shot with confidence and without hesitation. Good for her!

The team has to keep working on limiting their turnovers and probably work on their press break as I am sure, like me, everyone has the ND game circled!

I think Geno is most annoyed when players are in the paint with an opportunity to either have an 'and-one' or two foul shots and instead choose to make a poor pass out or a poor pass to another paint player who is not in a better position. It happen a number of times in this game and lead to four or five turnovers (and some fast breaks the other way.)

KK is just a monster on defense.

I agree about Sarah not getting (taking) enough shots. She needs to hunt shots more.

I think they have been working on their zone offense more, still could be better but they are starting to look like they know what to do and doing it with more consistency.

Was really pleased that Jana took those foul line jumpers and made them teams are going to give her that shot and sag expecting a pass down low. with those and her two free throws she got to double figures. She just looks much more comfortable. She is still a defensive liability outside, but is looking better as a zone defender, too.

4 players in double figures, 2 starters and 2 bench players
No player over 25 minutes but 9 players at 17 or above.
33 points off the bench scored at .38/minute vs. 51 for the starters at .45/min - not surprising with the pace and pressure called of for the 4th Q which was all bench.

Things I liked & appreciated -
  • Ash with a team high +36
  • Jana's middies and smooth free throws
  • KK looking pretty fearless in that mask
  • Carol scoring
  • the double/triple teams turning a SH pivot into a held ball
  • Gup Gup's blocked shot
  • SH not having any blocked shots

I couldn't see the game, as I was painting, and could only look at the laptop for the game cast. One thing that stood out was the balance inspiring between starters and the bench. really nice to see Allie and Jana have a nice game stat-wise.

Overall solid game with plenty of things for Geno to work on in practice. I guess I would call it “yeomanlike”. They beat one of the better teams in the conference by 36 and really did not have their best stuff. Pretty impressive. I’m really liking Geno’s obvious plan to first win the game and then let the younglings get some developmental play. I’m especially impressed with what we’re seeing lately from Jana! She seems to have taken Geno’s words to heart regarding her need to get in better shape. She seems to have turned a corner and rededicated herself to fighting for her spot. I believe she is going to be a big factor when the tournament comes around. Overall, I would say this game though not without it’s faults, was a very encouraging one for the long term with Jana, Kayleigh, Allie, and Serah as well, showing promise of things to come.

It does seem concerning that as soon as we put in our bench in the 4th quarter they tend to get smoked by the opposing team’s starters for about 5-7 minutes. I know Geno is trying to get them some playing time when it’s a blowout, but it’s rough to watch.

Stat Broadcast. Links are usually posted in the Chat before the game begins.

Thanks. I should have known this...I actually have to live Stat Broadcast running on my phone while I'm watching the game on my TV.
I didn't realize that they were accessible after the game though.

This team is still developing as a unit. Plenty for Geno to work on.

Sarah's shots will come. She took 11 shots and made 7. That's 63 percent No problem with that.

Azzi with another solid game 16.

Good contribution from the bench. Allie with 4 - 6 from 3 for 12. Jana with 10 again and good play in the post.

Between Serah and Jana there was 17 points. Very good production.
