This is good for the team and should be good for Summers long term.

Let's list a few benefits.

1. Showcases his versatility to pro scouts. Look at Jones at Dallas. Someone who can move between CB and S is a huge benefit.
2. Gives him a different perspective of how plays look at the line of scrimmage and how plays develop. In theory this makes him better when he returns to CB.
3. Allows CB's to grow and gives Safeties time to grow as well. They were perilously close to being (I don't know what word to use, but it's something implying their confidence was close to being shot).
4. Sets the example for the rest of the team.
 
Watched the game on reply and the announcers were calling his move a "game changer" for the Uconn defense. Yet to be seen, but I hope they're right!
 
There was another reason, however, that the running game was able to take off a bit. What was it? The offense is now spread out in open formations, which spreads the defense further out and away from the line of scrimmage.

Yeah. but who was the guy with two TEs setting up a packed 7 man offensive line?
 
While it was noble that he took the job, he still has a ways to go.
