I know that Sedona is a top-10 prospect and Geno was interested in her, but from the videos I've seen, she looks like a real project. I should note, though, that Kara Wolters was a project who became NPOY. At 6'7", Sedona certainly has potential.

Geno is still looking at Charli Collier, Olivia Nelson-Ododa, and NaLyssa Smith from the 2018 group. I think we need to get at least one of them.

The following schools are listed in the "Considering" field on Hoopgurlz for Nelson-Ododa. Has she announced that she is interested in other schools? Other than Ohio State there is a heavy southern flavor in that list.

ConsideringGeorgia Tech Yellow Jackets, Georgia Lady Bulldogs, Ohio State Buckeyes, South Carolina Gamecocks, Tennessee Lady Vols

The following are listed for Smith...the list is about the length of the dictionary in most southern schools.

ConsideringArizona State Sun Devils, UCLA Bruins, Connecticut Huskies, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Louisville Cardinals, Ohio State Buckeyes, Oregon State Beavers, Baylor Lady Bears, Texas Longhorns, West Virginia Mountaineers, Kansas Jayhawks, TCU Horned Frogs, Tennessee Lady Vols, Texas Tech Red Raiders

Why not more than one? Smith seems to be a pretty different type of player than the other two.

Not so fast... That really depends on the thickness of the shoulder pads that she has in the jacket she is wearing at any given time... so there is no way for me to accurately answer that without standing right next to her. If they are too think she may strain her neck trying to look and we wouldn't want that.
Don't you get it man? It's not how big her shoulder pads are, but how far over her shoulder she can throw that over padded jacket.

Coach Aston is proving to be a very good recruiter; obviously, it helps to have the state of Texas as her backyard, but she is definitely a relentless worker. She established herself early on the recruiting trail after accepting the Texas job; and, kind of put herself out there by accepting early verbal commitments from very young players -- so young that there weren't even any published recruiting rankings for such youngsters yet.

IIRC, Charli Collier committed as an 8th grader. Then, it was Sedona Prince who committed early in her freshman season. Not long after that, 2017 Didi Richards gave her verbal commitment (November of her sophomore season). Granted, they each de-committed the Spring of 2015 or so. Regardless, having those verbals from both Prince and Collier for the same class kind of led me to believe that Prince was destined for the Center position, while Collier is a power forward.

These days, not every big/tall player wants to player Center in college. I think that applies to both Collier and NaLyssa Smith, although I could be wrong. If they want to play power forward and not be "forced" into the Center role, then they will probably look for a place that can meet their requirements. Luckily for Texas, they did conduct in-home visits with both (as did a lot of national programs), as well as with Queen Egbo. Would love for Texas to gain a commitment from a PF who would fit best playing alongside Sedona.

Landing elite out-of-state recruits is definitely the next step. Getting Alecia Sutton out of Missouri was a great start for her 2016 class. And, then landing the USC transfer of Jatarie White (NC) was another step in extending Texas' reach. Landing Megan Walker would definitely be a milestone moment for Coach Aston and Texas considering the competition for her.

For those wondering if the timing of Sedona's re-commitment has anything to do with Walker -- it certainly might. They do know each other, and were in Houston in August for a skills camp:

It's kind of like Kentucky on the men's side.....I can see 2 or 3 great players wanting to play on the same team but they have been getting 8-10 of the top 30 players every two seasons..I guess playing time has taken a back seat to getting to the NBA faster.....the same simply doesn't apply to the women so I really wonder what having 3 dominant post players on the same team is about from a recruit's perspective..
Likely it has more to do with Baylor than it does Texas. I was talking about this a few months Ago but I will reiterate... basically Baylor has what 4 or 5 big girls right and if Texas ever wants to get a number 1 seed they are going to have to beat Baylor. Losing to them by 20 points three times a year isn't gonna cut it. That roster is built to knock of Baylor and hopefully get a B12 banner.

A lot of Texas players just stay in Texas. It could be a culture thing or the fact that there are a number of good options there so why leave. I have noticed though a lot of early commitments then decommitting then recommitting of Texas players especially between Baylor and Texas. At times it seems like they are just trading players on their rosters.... maybe that's why they don't like each other.

The heat is officially on Texas.
From 2014- 2019 they would have signed a top 5-10 Caliber player.
2104-Ariel Atkins #3 + Jatarie White #7 (Transfer)
2015- Lashann Higgs#7
2016-Joyner Holmes #2
2017-Chasity Patterson #4
2018-Sedona Prince #9
Throw in other highly ranked player like Brooke McCarty#29 and Jordan Horsey #16 and one could make the argument that Texas has been the most successful recruiting program in this span of time. In the next couple of years multiple FF appearances for Texas should be a minimum expectation even without Walker.

Regardless of player rankings, chemistry and coaching come into play here..............the idea that anybody can win with just great talent is a myth..........those critics of Geno and Uconn will learn that pretty quickly in the next few years as the talent pool is evenly shared among the top 10-15 teams..................it's easy to be good, it''s difficult to be great and to be consistently great is rare indeed

I offer a different hypothesis that is much easier and simpler to defend: "No one (including Geno) can win without great talent." Texas has great talent.

How are you able to see the entire list like that (for Smith)?.. I'm only able to see the first few schools. I'm never able to scroll down to see the entire list.

I agree. Supplementing your classes with 1 or so elite player(s) from out of state is the next step. Texas is so deep in talent that you really don't have to leave the state to secure a top 15 class year in and year out. Most important is making sure Texas remains as visible as Baylor in the eyes of elite players in state.. then you go out of state to cherry pick elite talent from elsewhere.

I'm envious of Baylor and Texas for having that much talent in your home state. Most of that talent will grow up being Texas/Baylor/A&M/etc. fans making it easier for you to get commits from them.

Tweet saying she chose Texas over UConn. Karen Aston Texas HC retweeted info so I presume its accurate. Haven't seen any other source to verify.

Not sure how hard Geno was recruiting her.
Geno does not worry about what he does not get---besides, he's waiting for a really tall one.

"I visited Notre Dame and had a great visit," she said. "I didn't visit UConn. I just felt a comfort level with Texas, and if the school were not in Texas, I would still want to go there. Distance was not a part of my process."

Prince originally committed to the Longhorns in 2014 and held that commitment for a year before re-opening her recruitment. "I wanted to see what else was out there for me," she said.
