This season, like always, the SEC WBB conference is going to be a heavyweight battle. South Carolina don't overlook Missouri this year.

Missouri will have to get super hot from 3 this year to beat or stay competitive in many games since they lose Blackwell and Ladazhia.

If I recall Blackwell didn't play in the SC game but I think Ladazhia was one of the few reasons they stayed remotely competitive on the boards. Not sure who they have this year inside that can be a difference maker. I do think they have some outstanding shooters between Frank and Hansen. I hate to say this, but I'm not convinced the Missouri coach will be there much longer. Hasn't been able to recover since losing Cunningham.

Why she could win it. Tennessee has quite a talented roster.
Yeah. Just an odd preseason thing to do.

It's an inherently backward looking honor based on team result, so is a little odd to have a preseason coach of the year.

I can’t believe Debbie thinks Iowa would ever have a chance against us…. Louisville?? Van Lith being shut down was far from an anomaly! Brea Beal would’ve done that all week and twice on Sunday and will do it again if we face off this season!

Texas, Stanford, and UConn I could see giving us good games but I don’t think any of them can beat us. People are REALLY sleep on us this year and I can’t wait! Tennessee fans beating their chest lol, Texas fans talking trash, UConn didn’t come close to beating us last year with Paige but they will this year without her? Stanford is out biggest competition and they are who I think will give us the toughest match but I’m rolling with Garnet & Black 100%! Dawn envisioned this back in 2008 when she made her speech YALL think she’s going to hand over the crown that easy?!?! Lol please stay tuned.

This team will be like all Dawn teams…they will be good/great all year but when the tournaments start? She loves confetti! I actually believe we can be better IF we get the PG spot figured out. Those sophomores spent The summer DEDICATED. I can’t wait to see how they have been transformed.

Raven is a better PG than Henny and I’m not saying that as a slight to Henny cause I love her and everything she’s done the last four year but once Raven gets comfortable and back to herself that will be a upgrade for us! She’s a true PG in every sense of the word! Opposing fans don’t want to admit it but Raven wasn’t the #1 PG for reason. She was rated higher than Olivia Miles and Rori Harmon and they both are considered two of the best PG’s in the country already in only their second season. I look for big things from her this year, especially after watching from the bench for a year.

I get the rationale of projecting the likely outcome of the conference or even the All SEC teams as it generates some hype and discussion for the upcoming season. However I don’t see the point of naming the likely Coach of the Year.

Better PG prospect maybe ...

Out of all the recruiting classes, Alabama sneaking up in there with a top 12 class is impressive. Obviously keeping E. Cody home was big but they snagged a couple of very nice prospects out of state.

Purcell signing a top 25 class first year as HC at MSU is a good start for them.

If SC finishes with Juju and Fulwiley, they will finish with the #1 class. I feel Fulwiley is definitely SC bound (unless she shocks us all), Juju is a bit more unpredictable. She feels like a west coast girl, just that vibe but it wouldn't surprise me to see her land at SC.

LSU's best recruiting class since Seimone and Fowles days easily. Most suspected M. Williams would always end up with Mulkey, although Rosario was a bit of a surprise.

I think JuJu is staying home in Southern Cal. Us other two are just high class hats on the table.

Mississippi State opens the season with a 104-47 win over Mississippi Valley State.

First, MVSU is not a good team. However it was a good opportunity to mix and match a lot of players and lineups. Ten players played at least 15 minutes and nobody played over 24. Most played between 16 and 20 minutes.

Annie Hayes played more a true point. She only scored 3 points but only took four shots. However she had 8 assists, 4 rebounds, 3 steals and only 2 turnovers. Jessika Carter looked good with 16 points, 10 rebounds and 6 blocks. However she had 4 fouls. This was sometimes an issue in the past. J Jordan was very aggressive and this system fits her style of play. She is a very physical player. She was the leading scorer with 18. Freshman Debreasha Powe played well in the first half but cooled a little in second. Graduate transfers A Johnson, K Weber and A Smith are all solid guards scoring 16, 12, and 15 respectively.
Transfer post from Louisville R Parker is going to be hard to keep off the floor. Finally Denae Carter is returning from a knee injury. She started a little hesitant but really played well as the game progressed.
MSU shot 44% from three and 66% overall off 27 assists, 12 steals to 15 turnovers. Won rebounds 42-32. Still some concerns with fouls inside. Basically it looked a lot like a Louisville style team.

Annie Hays as the PG surprises me. I believe she will eventually go back to a 2 and be a greater offensive threat. Not sure we have a true PG, really miss Myah, but hope Purcell can find another answer rather than Annie, she is just to valuable as a scorer to burden with PG duties. Any thought on what player could fill the PG role?

This was part of her return reason. She and coach discussed the fact that she had proven everything she needed to as far as scoring for the WNBA, but she'll be a PG at the next level.

She needs it and State needs it. The scoring is available when needed I'm sure, but there are other scorers on the roster this year.

We'll see how it plays out, but they looked very good last night. Grad Xfer Asianae Johnson from St. Bonaventure was the surprise of the night for me. This team is loaded with experienced guards.

So good to see Jessika Carter back in her element and putting up a double double. And Denae Carter looks healed up as well.
