Very interesting article. I'm sure this will end up in the Cesspool, but thought I'd at least put it here for folks to see. It is directly related to sports, and tangentially WCBB since it's one of the powerhouse conferences in the hoops landscape.
Apparently Georgia removed the confederate symbols from their flag in 2001 and it took legislators 2 years to get the bill passed. Both the chancellors of Ole Miss and Mississippi State approve the SEC Commissioner's comments.
"It is past time for change to be made to the flag of the State of Mississippi," SEC commissioner Greg Sankey said in a statement posted to Twitter. "Our students deserve an opportunity to learn and compete in environment that are inclusive and welcoming to all." Sankey went on to say that if Mississippi refuses to change their flag this time, they will consider banning championship events from the state until it is.
Not sure what the "banning championship events from the state" means - maybe either the 2 Mississippi schools will be barred from competing in any SEC sports events, or maybe it means something else.
