SEC/B12 Challenge (AAC Involvement)

Did I read somewhere that Tulsa is floundering financially? Like, the whole school, not just the athletic department.

Yes, I posted the link. Huge financial trouble. They cut 40% of all departments and majors. The accreditor told them they are bleeding badly in sports and endangering the whole school.

Possibly the worst AAC add

You may see more of this in the future. Only the top privates are immune. Some of the state schools are going to devolve as well, maybe some directionals or secondary state schools.

So if we lose Tulsa, do we bother to replace them.

Does the new ESPN agreement have a renegotiation clause in the even that any schools are lost, or only key schools?

The statement said there’s a clause I’m sure losing anyone can give them the opportunity to renegotiate

Is it even possible to lose a school?

Tulsa has an endowment of over 1 billion dollars for 4000 students. Also read that the courses that will be cut will affect only 6% of the students.

The President got called out for using stats to assuage people. 6% was the amount of majors. But the 40% of programs cut were in the Humanities and they impacted the school's entire Gen Ed program (in other words, the entire student population). They'll have to figure out what to do with the credit hours.

The big problem was with the accreditors. And this problem isn't even going away as it has been long running for them: University of Tulsa cutting non-faculty positions, salaries, benefits

This is the key one: TU's last president left a $25 million deficit but its new president has a plan

They've got one hell of a cushion with the endowment, but not when this is happening:

Overall, the university went from a $135 million increase in funds generated from operations and investments in 2011 to an $84 million overall loss last fiscal year, according to the university’s consolidated financial statements.

However, the university’s supporters point to its $1 billion endowment and note TU has plenty of resources to weather a short-term financial challenge. Clancy said TU would tap the endowment to preserve essential services if needed, though some of the funds are restricted for certain uses.

Then there's this: Moody's downgrades University of Tulsa (OK) to Baa1, assigns Baa1 to series 2017; outlook to negative

Truth is, the consolidation of some of the Universities in the US is probably overdue. The cost of university is getting exorbitantly high, and the millennial and gen Z's school debt may cripple the economy. The universities need to get leaner and more efficient. I expect we'll see dozens of renown universities cease to exist in the next decade.
