Seattle Storm @ Dallas Wings - 6/24/18

New Picture.jpg

41-32 SEA midway through the second

49-42 SEA at the half

Cambage 20 pts, 3 reb, 1 blk

Stewart 12 pts, 4 reb, 1 ast, 1 stl
Mosqueda-Lewis 8 pts (3-4)

Funny seeing Mercedes Russell trying to play against Liz Cambage - yikes.

Kaleena got the start, has 8 points in 11 minutes. Nuthin' else though, except 2 turnovers & 3 fouls.

Dallas will win a championship before Seattle, they have a much better Foster.

Most of the WNBA broadcasters doing games are pretty good . This TCU coach doing analysis for the Wings is tiresome. Every game she whines about Liz Cambage taking a beating. She just said “Whitcomb is so steady and confident every single game”. What? Not this year. She is 31% from 3 and 34% overall with a lot of unsure play. Very streaky this year and mostly cold.

Seems like a Dallas homer announcing crew who knows they're on national TV so they're "sorta" trying to act impartial. ??

Play by play guy said Diggens came into the game 3 of 24 from 3. Whew 12%.
Game was tied at the 7 mark. Now 19 point Seattle lead with 1:55 to go. 19 point differential in 5 minutes.

Bless this TCU coaches heart “you have Skylar Diggens Smith on the backside one of the best most efficient 3 pt shooters”. Skylar is shooting 27% on the season from 3

Stewie eating up the Wings now - 28 pts/12 rbs. Just smoked Cambage with an unblockable hook shot. Then brought Liz all the way out to the 3-point line and sunk a 3 over her. Storm rolling, all-of-a-sudden up 21 with 2-1/2 minutes left.

Stewie had one of those old UConn tournament games where she knows she is the best player on the court including strong board work. :D

I thought the race for the MVP award was wide open, but Stewie, leading the league in scoring, has at least one hand on the trophy.

97-76 SEA final

Stewart 28 pts, 12 reb, 2 ast, 2 stl, 2 blk

Cambage 23 pts, 9 reb, 2 ast, 3 blk

Diggins-Smith may be just a tad overrated. She takes a flock of bizarre, low-percentage shots, turns the ball over trying to make the spectacular pass, and shows more than a bit of negative body language. Then again, maybe it’s just a ND thing.

She needs to convincingly beat Candace one-on-one on national TV, and the Storm need to keep winning.

Candice is not (or more accurately should not) win it on her own team. Nneka is the heart of the Sparks and her consistency is clear while Candace is all over the place from spectacular to invisible to a TO machine. I am not ready to give it to Stewie either since I think she too often settles for just having good games instead of being the dominant player she can be. Not sure who is leading the MVP race which is a function of their being no clear cut best team in the league imho. This year is alot of fun (except for liberty fans)

Can we include Cambage in the discussion?
I wouldn’t include Cambage. We are 35% through the season. Wings are projected to improve one game with her.
Wings are 6-6 (17 wins projected)
Last year 16-18 without her

Aja Wilson more valuable in my book.
Aces 5-10 (11 wins projected)
Aces 8-26 2017

Aces 0verall roster stinks. Lambeer doing good coaching job but needs more WNBA caliber players. He has two good ones.

Cambage was really exposed today with the double team. She was a mess with the hard double. Also, she needs to be in better shape. She tires out in tough games.

Cambage is a monster player but she typically does her damage during the first half so it must be a case of conditioning as well as her coach does not get the team to pass her the ball when she is down low. FOr some reason, whenever Paris (who is about 6'2) was guarding her, she would get to the high post instead of parking down low...some of the Wings players (Powers, diggins, Davis) like to shoot the ball way too much instead of looking for the open player more.

May someone please tell me why Saniya Chong isn't playing?
The coach/ GM lost confidence in her. She looked hesitant in her limited minutes and on a short leash with Romero out there. Romero only played 4 mop up min. Diggens-Smith 36. That’s too many.
Who knows with the WNBA. Saniya could end up being picked up tomorrow. Look at Asia Taylor. Back in the league with the Fever now. Her 4th team in 5 yrs. That’s tenacity. I got a fever for some more A-Tay. Go L’vul!

Diggins Smith is a very good player but better when things go her way...has a tendency to fold when things don't go her way...but when she is on, she can be amazing

How would she do playing for the USA in Spain with an arena full of Spaniards jeering her for 40 minutes?

It is funny but to me, I sought of group Diggins-Smith and Kayla McBride into the same pool. Both players can be very good but they can also be emotionally pushed out of kilter. A wee bit of the Fighting Irish

To be fair, not all ND players seem that way to me. I think Natalie Achonwa is very even keeled and is steadily improving but she is a bit of a tweener. I wish she was on a better team.

And Jewell Loyd has really stabilized her game providing more inside game and is better able to accept the help around her.
