Sean gives his impression of Alex in terms of NCAA and Big East history. I think Sean Miller is a pretty straight shooter and not given to hyperbole.

If you care to listen to the whole presser he's a thoughtful and honest talker.

Interesting guy. And I can't stop thinking of the video of him on Johnny Carson.!

Wow, those are some very complimentary and truthful words spoken by Sean Miller. I can't remember ever hearing such well-spoken observations from an opposing coach before.

Calling us fans Arrogant and Spoiled by then PC coach doesn't count ? Yeah, Sean Miller seems like a good dude.

"Really, it's help the new guys experience what it feels like to win, but at the same time add to the history of this program, that hasn't been done since the UCLA days," Karaban added. "We've still got a long way to go, but I'm glad that we're piecing it together now, building momentum heading into the Big East games."

Why UConn's Alex Karaban was compared to past Duke stars by Xavier coach Sean Miller: 'He is a winner'

Sean Miller made some very flattering comments about last year Uconn team before the ncaa tournament began.

He really went out of his way to praise Alex, and Alex deserves every drop of praise. Nobody better to mentor LM and everyone on that team.

This is why I enjoy games against X and Miller. He sees UConn as a barometer for his program and he coaches his ass off every time. And then, when it over, he gives great post-game interviews.

Great words by Sean in his praise of AK.

And I don't even mind opposing coaches calling us fans arrogant and spoiled. We are spoiled. Just look at the games that have been played recently or will be played in the coming weeks for both the MBB and WBB teams and broadcast nationally. UConn gets a great deal of visibility. Even on PTI yesterday, Jay Bilas was talking about the MBB's victory over Gonzaga and how they moved past Maui. Great time to be a fan.

Dan Hurley even said it himself, Uconn perimeter defense wasn't that bad. It was a lot of one on one incredible shot making.

The second half might have been the best half of basketball anyone has played against us in 2 years.

Sure @Creighton last year was a spanking too, but those were more clean open looks.

UConn fans aren’t spoiled or arrogant ? Those unfortunate negatives are bi-products of our incredible success.. Even for us fans that have endured some dry spells those lines between pride in accomplishment and arrogance can be blurred.

Wow he came across authentic and heartfelt. These comments were after a tough, tough loss, remember.

Character is something that should count for me than it does.… What an superb example for his players and fans - bravo!

Miller always an ambassador of the BE, as a player alum. Gushed about us last year.

Looked up Laettner's 4 years, as was a little dusty. Quite the run.

Fresh - lost to SH in the F4, the Danny Ferry year.
Soph - crushed by UNLV in the NC.
Junior - NC
Senior - NC

3 wins from being perfect. Hard to trump that, but if AK can win 3 out of 3, goes down as the all timer winner in the 64 team plus modern era. One can dream.

Of course character should count. You won’t hear Miller talk about skipping the handshake line. He has class.

Though Sean did have high praise for AK which is often unusual for an opposing coach, I'm not ready to anoint him to sainthood based on character. He did have some high- level recruiting violations at Arizona. Of course, most of those are probably not even violations with MBB in 2024.

Well, not sure I’m ready to cancel him either. Recruiting violations kind of remind me of holding calls in football.. You could call them on every play if you’re looking for them.

His team played exceptionally well.

These coaches respect the hell out of each other. That's sports. And life

Spoiled? Without question, and I will forever thank JC for taking us to heights beyond my wildest dreams of the early 1980's.

Arrogant? Only when fans of an unworthy opponent try to act as if we are peers in the college basketball landscape.

As Calhoun said in his wonderful hall of fame speech, to lose with dignity and to win with humility. I watch that speech every year.

Yup all I ever wanted was for Uconn to make a final 4. As they say, the rest is history.

Took a look at Laettners run.

F4 loss to SH
NC loss to UNLV
2 NCs

That’s a nice run. AK would have to win 3 in a row to jump that but if he can, becomes an all time winner in the new era 64 team field. Would be a nice way to go into the horizon.

It really is hard to imagine praying for a win against Syracuse our first year in the BE. Thinking how are we ever going to get that good. No way any of us could have imagined the last 34 years since 1990. First the pain of waiting another nine years to get to a final four then what has happened since.

Those Dom Perno years and early Jim Calhoun years were really rough. Calhoun had the very valid excuse of rebuilding and cleaning up Perno's mess. Dom Perno was awful and I never understood as a child in the 80s and even now why UConn fans back in the 80s liked him so much. I lived in Storrs until 1996 and whenever I was at games or on UConn's campus he was spoken about in such high terms. Even the Hartford Courant gushed about him. Why?

I remember feeling like UConn was so small time and was the little kid among the adult big time schools like GTown, Syracuse, Nova, St. John's, Duke, North Carolina, DePaul, etc. They were never on national TV while those other schools were on it a lot. I had 2 favorite teams in those years. One of them was of course UConn and the other one was............................

Duke.

I thought in the mid 80s, UConn will never be big time enough to play Duke so I would never have to choose between the two-it was like UConn was in the minor leagues and Duke was the was in the major league. I think I cheered for Duke vs GTown in the 1989 Elite 8 game (Laettner vs Mourning). Once Duke played UConn in 1990 in the Elite 8, I was going for UConn all the way and then when Laettner hit that shot, I despised Duke, Laettner, and Bobby Hurley, especially considering Laettner's behavior and irritating behavior.

It was a surreal twilight moment in 2023 championship game to see Bobby Hurley wearing a UConn jacket and cheering for them. The power of Dan Hurley and his staff in full force.

He's circling like a shark for when or if Danny gets 15MM+ a year from an NBA team. Plus ridiculous and allowable perks.

Of course, Dan Hurley stays.

Perno stole the ball from Bill Bradley to preserve an upset win over Princeton to send us to our first ever regional final.

During his time as head coach there were a lot of people (sportswriters, fans) who would see that every time Perno's name was mentioned. To them, anything he did after that sweet sixteen game could be excused because of that one play.

Perno also brought in the Corny Thompson, Mike McKay recruiting class. I was really young at the time, but I think Corny was a Parade All-American that was recruited by North Carolina and Kentucky. Him staying home may have been what ultimately got us invited to the Big East. Perno also brought in Phil Gamble and Cliff which paved the way for our first taste of success with the NIT title. So ultimately, despite being a very mid coach, I give Perno credit for 3 major milestones in UConn history.
