Looks like several high profile former players are in favor of program inbreeding. Note the comment about elevating an assistant coach.

My guess is that on the earlier infractions from years past the administrators probably said "well this is a headache but he is bringing in great talent, let's see how good this can go until the headache becomes insurmountable". At this point, it seemed like they couldn't get away with sweeping this under the carpet and said "damn enough of this, we need to hire someone else" or the simple cost-benefit analysis said that it wasn't worth it anymore whereas with Bill Self, KU is a-okay with everything.

But it took the regents to tell him to walk. The AD was about to give him an extension.
You can just picture Miller going to the AD and saying, "you know, I've brought in a lot of revenue for the university and think it's only fair that my efforts be recognized just as my buddy Bill Self's achievements have been rewarded at Kansas".
The AD, fearing he'd be blamed for losing his future Hall of Shame coach, was apparently ready to comply with the big new contract.

Jefferson is so outraged about Miller getting fired it makes me wonder if he might be identified as someone who was paid to go to Arizona.
Let the NCAA take action and report on all the allegations in detail so we can learn just who was paid in the past as well as the current group.

oh, interesting. The AD was willing to keep him and give him the extension. I only know on a peripheral level what has happened at Arizona, maybe I need to read more on this. So, maybe I have to substitute "administrators" with "board of regents" in my original post. What motivated them to show Miller the door? Did their values or whatever not line up with the AD's values or whatever?

I like Jefferson a ton as a commentator as he is entertaining and knowledgeable. Plus, he had a good career as a NBA player. But reading his reaction to all of this makes me believe he is too emotional about this situation to exercise good judgement, not that he is the decider of who becomes coach.
