These guys are professionals that staked a fair amount of money on a sports product that is not known as a 'money maker'. While CPTV survives on viewer contributions and corporate sponsorship, SNY actually has to sell commercials to hard nosed marketing departments. Their profits, and I hope they make a lot, come from creating a product that draws in viewship and therefore advertising dollars. If they do not expand viewership from the current CPTV numbers, they will not make their profit goals. All this is meant to imply that we are going to get a bunch of new look programming aimed at more than purely CT residents and Uconn alum. I am looking forward to this experiment. This is (like CPTV before them) the cutting edge of WCBB and if they succeed, it will be GREAT for WCBB in general. More teams will be able to get significant TV revenue, and the developed audience may have a positive effect up the chain to the WNBA and down to the HS level.
I am sure we will have plenty to complain about through the transition (we do that quite well!) but I think we will be happy with the changes.
