I get the passing can be a little mechanical and less fluid than Newton, and I'm sure that will be worked on. But what will help is last year he had Asa Newell and otherwise 3 ok guys. We have 2 shooters in Ball and Mullins, a potent Reed, Jr. if he is 1:1 or AK who is in better shape and likely a hair faster on the first step.

Yes, being a PG is a bit easier when you can just about pass it to anyone who can score.

I would include AK as a shooter as well.

Interesting that both of these guys pick UConn over St. John’s in the Big East while many other sportswriters think the opposite.
St. John’s incredible talent and depth 2-5 should have them really good, but I don’t know who the hell is handling the ball for them. I don’t think we sweep them, and we could very well lose 2 of 3 to them, but we will go further in the tournament.

Despite the two titles, a lot of writers will bet on Pitino. He’s going to consistently roll out a very good team that’s tough as nails. Dan has the two titles but he hasn’t earned that level of respect yet. It will take years to convince people he’s got that level of consistency.

I can’t think of a coach I’d pick against Pitino in a one game scenario. Not even JC, but he’d be my top choice. Pitino teams just never really throw up a stinker. They are always ready to play. I never feel confident going up against him.

SJU didn't look so good against Arkansas last March. I wouldn't call it a stinker per se, but they didn't look ready to play either.

Jared gets TO on to talk UConn

Didn't you post this earlier this week? I swear I already saw it.

Edit: It was Jared that did.

I agree Pitino is one of the best ever and I would maybe pick him over anyone in a one game scenario but Hurley gets massive respect. He's currently considered the best coach in the sport and Pitino just threw up a huge stinker against Arkansas in his last game.

Dan is considered the best program builder and the hot coach right now. However, I don't think most basketball fans or writers would choose Dan in a one game scenario against Pitino. Pitino is just too proven over the years not to be the favorite assuming they have similar talent. As far as SJU this past year, yeah, they weren't good against Arkansas, but he also cobbled that team together over a few months and made a top 10 team out it. I just think Rick is an incredible coach. When we were courting Dan, I was an advocate for bringing in Pitino, baggage and all, if Dan didn't take the job. Maybe, I think too highly of Pitino as a coach, but I've always revered him as one of the very, very best in the sport. Give him some shooters and look out.

slick rick also has 2 titles

I know. I'm just saying Dan's recent back to back titles don't necessarilly make him better than Pitino.

Big historical shoes to fill. Best of luck and wishing Silas total success!

You’re overestimating pitino against Calhoun just ask coach k

Yeah. Calhoun is probably the best when he has a one game scenario and time to prepare. Still, you know Pitino’s guys are going defend, bump, push and scrap to the end. His Louisville teams were particularly tough.

Don’t think you’re giving Hurley nearly enough credit

Their comment that Silas's defense will be good enough to keep him on court as he learns the offense was very encouraging. Hurley has been vocal about improving the defense this season. On the offensive side. He keeps his head up and can defeat the double team, or defenses blitzing the ball, with the proper pass. There is a lot to like in his over all game.

But nothing means nothing until they play meaningful games.

The irony here is obviously Hurley already saw what he liked in Silas given 2 years at Georgia. This isn't like getting a Top 10 HS PG....
