So I'm looking at our schedules and projecting a few things.
1. UMass will likely go off of our schedules when they likely join CUSA in 2025. We can't waste September slots on them and they likely won't be able to play us in October or November.
2. The SEC will likely go to a 9-game schedule in 2026 so the Ole Miss series is likely off (Ole Miss plays 7 home games a year).
3. The 27/28 Army games will likely be cancelled.
With that out of the way, here is what we should do:
2025: The Central game should be moved to November. Assuming UMass if off the schedule, our open dates would be 8/30 and two Saturdays in November.
Need at least one more P4 games that year. My pick is Pitt. We would play the road game in 2025 and the home game at some point in the near future.
The last game would be a home game as part of a H/H series against either a MW or AAC in November.
2026: Possibly losing the UMass home game so need a replacement. We having openings on 10/17 and 10/24. Pitt has two openings. This is where we could fit in the home game.
2027: Assuming Army and Ole Miss are no longer on the schedule, we would need three games. Preferably two would be against P4 teams (both part of H/H series; one at home and one away) and the final game would be a home game against an FCS opponent.
2028: Assuming Ole Miss and Army drop off the schedule, we would have six games left to schedule. IMO, three should be against P4 teams (all part of H/H series), two should be against MW or AAC teams (both part of H/H series), and final game would be a home game against an FCS opponent.
2029: I don't think we will let Army get out of this year's game so we have five games scheduled. IMO, three more should be against P4 teams (all part of H/H series), three should be against MW or AAC teams (all part of H/H series), and the final game would be a home game against an FCS opponent.
