Sarah Strong wins The Athletic's FOY

She really showed me a lot this year. I knew she was good, and I expected her to start and contribute but she was arguably the MVP this year. I know Paige also had a great year but to some extent that was expected. Really a great start to her career at UConn.

Only six freshmen in the NCAA era (starting 1981-1982) have averaged 16 points, 8 rebound, and 3 assists (courtesy Stathead):

Cheryl Miller 673 20.4 9.7 3.5 1982-83 Southern Cal
Korie Hlede 628 24.2 8.0 5.8 1994-95 Duquesne
Sarah Strong 578 16.1 8.5 3.5 2024-25 Connecticut
Erin Perperoglou 530 17.1 8.7 3.0 1997-98 UC Santa Barbara
Kisha Ford 437 16.2 8.6 4.0 1993-94 Georgia Tech
Jessica Haynes 433 16.0 9.9 3.0 1985-86 San Diego State

Congrats to Sarah. I know UConn players aren't in it for the individual accolades, but it's nice to see them recognized none-the-less. I've said it several times - I knew Sarah would be good, but I had no idea she'd be this good. She deserves every accolade that comes her way.

One thing I've noticed about Sarah that HAS been mentioned, but not often enough IMHO, is her sneaky athleticism. That girl can MOVE! She reminds me of Pheesa in that NO motion is wasted, and she's incredibly patient when she gets the ball. Incredible head on her shoulders for such a young player. She's truly special. Gonna LOVE watching her the next 3+ years!!!!

Hmmm, only 1 in the last 25 years. It must be getting harder to do.

Nothing wrong with being on a short list with a Hall of famer, even if the other four aren't household names.
