Sarah Strong WBCA FOY

There will be NO AWARD that SARAH will earn that she didn't work her butt off to get and not EARN! I predict that Sarah will become the face of UCONN and the face of college BB the next 3 years. If Sarah earns AA honors her freshman year , she will be a 4 year AA for her career. My opinion. GO SARAH!!!!! GO HUSKIES!!!!!!

She's that girl, has been since she arrived at Storrs and always will be. We get three more years of this? And next year with her, Azzi, and whichever transfer Geno decides is the UConn fit along with KK, Shade Ducharme and everyone else.

Who?
Sarah Strong over Blakes (two 50 pt games) from Shea Ralph's Vanderbilt team that lost in the first round. Blakes won the AP FOY, so Sarah would have a chip on her shoulder.

Now, we are waiting on the main goal: Chip #12. I like UConn's ability to defeat UCLA and go on for the 37th win of this season!

Go Huskies!!!

Sarah reminds me so much of Napheesa, from basketball IQ to quiet personality. They both are level headed and have a calming effect on the court. Like Sarah, Napheesa was a thief (led team in steals) herself during her college years.
College freshman Napheesa couldn't hold a candle to College Freshman Sarah! Napheesa has grown tremendously after leaving UConn and entering the WNBA, presently she just might be the best in the league. But as college freshmen there is no comparison ... Sarah wins hands down.

When is the WBCA team announced?

When WBCA anounced its list of 50 finalists, it also stated that :

The committee will meet in Tampa, Florida, in conjunction with the annual WBCA Convention to select the 2025 Wade Trophy winner and the 2025 WBCA NCAA Division I Coaches’ All-America team. Both will be announced on April 3.

Yes, maybe. But college freshman Napheesa played behind college senior Morgan Tuck, a 1st team AA and 3rd pick in the draft.

That's why you can't compare the two as freshmen.
Yes of course. But the implication of your initial post as I read it was that Pheesa was not as talented as Sarah as a freshman. When the truth is that we will never know how talented Pheesa could have been as a freshman, because her playing time was limited.

Here is some further speculation. Paige just passed Pheesa for 3rd place on the all time UConn scoring list. Had Pheesa been a starter during her freshman season she would have likely been #2 ahead of Stewie, with an outside chance of being #1 ahead of Maya.

And had KLS (Katie Lou Samuelson) not missed the five games as a senior due to injury she would have ranked ahead of her in all-time scoring. You can't compare apples with oranges is my point regarding trying to compare Pheesa with Strong. Pheesa was a sub as a freshman and Strong is a starter. Lets wait until Strong has completed her four years and then compare the two.

Let’s keep it simple. Pheesa was a great UConn player who did not play very much as a freshman because she was playing behind an AA forward. Sarah is a great UConn player who plays a lot as a freshman because there is no other forward currently on the roster who is better than her. That is my point.

Pheesa (who was and is one of my all-time favorites) was a "great" player by the end of her UConn career. Sarah is all ready a great player as a freshman. There is no comparison of the two as college freshmen.

We’re going to disagree on this. Pheesa was clearly a great player as soon as she got a chance to start as a sophomore. She was and continues to be the best low post scorer that’s ever played at UConn, with an array of post moves unequalled in WBB.

I remember her announcement when she was asked what could she bring to UCONN. Shyly she said…I can shoot. Girl, you can do it all. Congratulations!!!!

Yes, I misspoke regarding Pheesa's greatness and agree it began as a sophomore and continued through the end of her career here. As I have already stated, she is one of my all-time favorites. I did not mean to slight her, I just don't think she can be compared to Sarah as a freshman. These are my final words on the subject. You know that I have the highest respect for you and your knowledge, so I don't like arguing with you.

If I remember correctly Collier had a labral tear from HS that hamstrung her a bit her first year. She had surgery then exploded onto the the scene soph year

Some Pheesa stats from her sophomore season. She led UConn with 754 points (20.1 ppg). She also led the team in both rebounds and blocks. Phee shot a ridiculous 68% from the field, 43% from the arc and 82% from the FT line.

Despite losing Stewie, Tuck & Mo to graduation the season before, the Huskies made it to another FF, with Phee, Lou & Gabby earning AA honors.

Sarah came to UConn and played like an upperclassman potential AA from day one. We have not seen this very often in UConn history.

When is the WBCA team announced?
Usually right before the first game of the Final Four. So I am surprised that it wasn't announced today. Last year was April 4th....

@oldude not that I don't believe you but where did you see this announcement about Paige?

Ok, so I went onto the WBCA website and looked at the awards calendar and they did not show any announcement and neither did a goole search. The Voting for the AA teams ended on March 6 so the announcement should be any day now....
