Sarah Strong
Connecticut Freshman Records
Points 578 (Maya Moore 678, Paige Bueckers 581)
Rebounds 305 (broke Tina Charles' record of 296)
Assists 126 (Paige Bueckers 168)
Steals 86 (Sales 102, KK Arnold and Abrosimova 90)
Blocks 61 (Wolters 97, Charles 81, Stewart 74)

This might be the best all-round freshman season in Connecticut history, even ahead of Paige's NPOY season.

pretty ironic when there were some here who didn't believe she would start or be a decent three-point shooter......

I will admit, I was one who didn't think Sarah would start. I thought she would be good but didn't see her as a starter over Ashlyn or KK. I am happy to say I was wrong. Not that Ashlyn or KK aren't playing great but Sarah has totally blown away all my expectations. Shes on the upper tier of freshmen along with Paige.

Are these regular season records, or do they count tournament games? If the latter, I think Paige's 2nd place for freshman points is as good as gone. And the steals 2nd place mark is in danger as well.

All of Sarah's totals are still active: season records include the entire NCAA tournament. She has an outside chance to catch Sales and maybe even Moore, if she has a couple of monster games. Blocks and assists are probably out of reach unless she has a string of games like Nika Muhl or Kelly Schumacher.

...and just 28 mins per game. Sarah hopefully still has 4 games to improve her stats by winning the play in front of her whether it be defense or offense. The next two games will count towards individual awards, so I expect the "Big 3" of Paige, Azzi, and Sarah to absolutely be allowed to "light up!!!" the scoreboard.

Go Huskies!!!

True, but Paige logged more minutes: currently Sarah has 1008 to Paige's 1049 as a freshman. On a per-40-minute basis Strong is ahead in every major category except assists, and miles ahead in blocks and rebounds.
Definitely an apples-v-oranges comparison. But Sarah is definitely on the GOAT track. Paige is a different style of player with different responsibilities than Sarah or anyone else on the team. Still, I am in awe at the thought of what Sarah would have accomplished if Geno had played her 36 mins/g as he did with Paige in her freshman year instead of 28.

I for one am grateful that Geno doesn’t have to play Sarah, or any other Husky, 36 minutes per game. We’ve been there and done that before. It’s not very comfortable hoping that UConn’s 5 or 6 players can hang on for a 40 minute game against a top opponent that goes 8-10 deep.
