The offense UConn runs is perfect for her.
Exactly. I think Dawn's offense wouldn't have suited her nearly as well, not to mention any other team who had recruited her. She'd have been a star anywhere, but suiting her talents and maximizing them requires something more.

Sarah is pretty position-less. Many in the offseason kept saying “she’s not a post, she’s a guard,” while others hoped her size would help a team with many guards have a post presence. As we approach March, Sarah has proven she’s both, and she does everything incredibly well.

Stats Through South Carolina Matchup:
Points - 435
Rebounds - 217
Assist - 92
Steals - 63
Blocks - 38

Current Standing on UConn’s all time freshman list:

Points - 10th
Rebounds- 10th
Assists- 18 away from top 10
Steals - Tied for 8th
Blocks - 8 away from top 10

At her current averages assuming we make the sweet 16, she’d end up:

Points - 2nd
Rebounds - 1st
Assists - 2nd
Steals - 4th
Blocks - 6th

It’s really quite remarkable.

I liked her bringing the ball up and also liked her playing point guard defense. Her picking Raven Johnson's pocket only to throw it off Azzi and back to herself just shows how quick her decision making is.

I was thinking of Charde — first time I saw someone do that.
One of the reasons UConn had so much trouble with the tOSU press was the Edwards was on the bench in foul trouble. UConn would park her in the middle of the backcourt and toss the ball high to her. If no one pressured her she would bring the ball across the timeline. Not exactly a "point center", but an important part in breaking a press.

It didn’t hurt that Aaliyah had plenty of experience as a ball handler on her high school team. She was often used as a big point guard. I doubt you can find videos of her HS team now. But there may still be a video of an all star game from those days in which she plays the point. I’ve always wondered if Geno had a tough sell getting Aaliyah to accept a low post role at UConn.
