Someone help explain why Hurley had Sanogo ride the bench the whole end of the second half after he was dominant for the first few minutes of the second half.

Not to mention, their guards drove into the paint at will in the second half with no rim protection... something Sanogo excels at when he's not fouling.

UConn was up 8 when he left the game. Hurley watched our lead slowly evaporate with no adjustment.

Was Sanogo hurt? If not, an inexcusable decision from Hurley.

Either Hurley thinks Sanogo can’t guard a ball handler or he just straight up blew it.

If youre intentionally slowing the game down, you use bigs. You don’t run small ball.

The board shouldn’t have to explain this. Hurley should have to explain this to the board.

Even if you're gonna sit Sanogo... Why not put in Akok? We had no rim protection. Their guards drive into the post all second half and Polley/Whaley could not stop it.

We needed a bigger rim presence in the game on defense. Simply inexcusable.

St John’s played 5 shooters. 4 guards and 1 SF.

They played 5 out the last 8 minutes of the game, meaning all 5 players outside the three point line.

That’s why you saw no help defense, because all 5 were shooters and had to be guarded at the 3 point line.

Whaley is our fastest recoverer on help D, if he couldn’t get there you think Sanogo could? Imagine Sanogo trying to guard a driver from the 3pt line? If Polley is getting blown by, you think Sanogo won’t?

If you go 2-3 Zone and park Sanogo in the middle youre daring a team shooting 50% from three in the game to make threes.

Obviously there’s an edge on the offensive end, but not nearly enough to warrant playing him. You get touch around the rim but lose a ball handler.

So instead we chose to play into their game plan to our detriment and still couldn't stop them. When that happens, you adjust.

Make them pay defensively by going into the post against their small lineup.

Inexcusable to not make any adjustments as our lead evaporated and became a deficit.

Yeah, so we went small and couldn't stop them at all on defense the last 5 minutes. They got wide open layups every possession or we fouled. At some point you have to adjust, and Hurley didn't even try

If we played their style, we would have lost by even more. We don’t have the offensive power to run up and down the court without our best player, and 5 wings on the floor for St. John’s.
I didn’t hate the decisions that were made...I hate the stubbornness to try something else.

It was a one point game with a minute left. They didn’t need to adjust.

Put the big on the worst of their five shooters and make SJU prove they can have 5 players make threes.

Id rather we dare them to take a 25 foot jump shot as they tire & where odds are they regress to their season average than let them walk into the paint for open layups.

This was compounded by the fact we didn’t have a single person on the court who could put the ball in the basket, because he was sitting on the bench.

Then they don’t need to, they’ll just drive right past him. He can’t defend a guard driving from the 3pt line. I actually think a healthy Akok would have been great in that situation, but he’s not there yet.

Polley can’t guard anyone on the court, so can’t be that
So if polley cant, what makes you think Sanogo can.
Appreciate you proving my point.

Odds that any reporters take him to task on his personnel patterns during the game in lost game presser?

I'll go about 0%.

The points SJ scored were in the paint. Not because they were so busy chasing shooters off the 3pt line...you watch the game or played ball before?

You play Whaley two steps off the worst of the three point shooters and Whaley can defend that dribble penetration.

All Hurley did was show how to blow a double digits second half lead by laying down defensively.

Then go zone. You can't stand on the sideline as your defense gets abused every single possession without trying something.

The defenders were not in position to help because of the spacing. That's the whole point of spacing. It's not because of chasing, it's because of placement and positioning.

Hurley let Mike Anderson dictate the game. Yes we couldn’t stay with their small lineup but they couldn’t deal with our bigger one.
