OMG! I would rest her until the SC game. Every year, injuries are the most important item I worry about. I sincerely hope it is NOT serious.

Jim Fuller tweeted same info.

Moriah Jefferson is day to day with hamstring injury but won't play for #UConn vs. Tulsa tomorrow. Saniya Chong should start

Everyone should be more worried about this development. Moriah is the most irreplaceable player on this team. The only real risk to winning the NC is Moriah getting injured.

**I know Breanna Stewart is the best player in the country, but we have players that can approximate some of her production. We do NOT have anyone that can handle the ball and run the team and play defense on the perimeter like MoJett.

Congrats to Saniya for earning the chance to start in Moriah's place. As echoed by others, Get well soon Moriah and cheer hard from the bench!!!
So will this be a partial preview of UConn 2016-2017? Wish both Moriah and Saniya well. 9(Never noticed how nice those two names sound together. Poetic.)

Staying on the subject of injuries, sophomore center Natalie Butler left towards the end of practice so she could get her injured thumb checked out. Auriemma said if the follow-up appointment goes well, she could soon be playing without the splint on her left hand that she needed to play against Cincinnati.

For whatever it's worth, Geno lavished praise on Chong for her play and in particular her practice on his show today. Said it's the best she's ever looked. He also said they've been practicing with a lineup that will resemble next year's and he's had to look away. :)

Moriah's injury worries me because hamstrings are so unpredictable. It can be a problem for a few days or a few weeks. And with Moriah , speed is one of her key components. And that hamstring is key to that component.

Let's keep our fingers crossed.

There is no doubt that they are definitely going to have their struggles next year.

Can't agree with you on this one at all. I love Moriah too but Stewie is THE difference maker. She's a matchup nightmare, great shot blocker, scores inside and outside, has the size that we need against teams like SC and is just otherworldly. Surprised you'd choose Moriah over Breanna.

If UCONN loses either one their chances at another NC are...

What does that last sentence mean? They looked too bad to watch or they looked good?

Probably looked too bad to watch. Can you imagine a team without Mo and Stewie? Gonna be some hiccups for sure. You get the sense that Geno is looking ahead at least a little to next year which is smart considering they are about to enter the soft part of the schedule. Expect a lot of Chong, Nurse, KLS, Collier, and Butler line ups in garbage time.

OK, I am smelling a conspiracy here! I suspect sometime last week Geno got a collect call from Russia - DT on the line with an ultimatum: you slow down that point guard who is on course to break my assists record, or I'll miss my plane to that little soiree your throwing at the end of the month!:)

Man, some o' you guys still don't understand the man, after all these years. He had to look away because it made him sad, to think about next year without the personalities of Mo and Stewie. How many times have we heard his players describe him, underneath, as a softie, as somebody who really cares about them? Why do former players stay in touch, care about his opinion, rally to him in times of strife - because he's great at making halftime adjustments? No - because he's got a great heart, and, like so many of us males as we age and the testosterone ebbs a bit, it shines through, more and more.

It's kinda funny - in December and early January, so many fans look forward, prognosticating about next years' team, or the class of 2017, 2018, or, heaven help me, 2019. Geno does too, he has too - but, he also knows this is the last rodeo for the class of 2016, and it makes him wistful and a bit worried that it won't end as it should for them.

Not good, but then some of that is probably just Geno being Geno. Also, there is plenty of time for the returning players to improve prior to next year.

May be one year later it will not look so bad. One year can make a good player big difference.

They won't be otherworldly like they are now with the Stewie/Mo/Tuck trio (we'll likely never see something like that again), but will be very good, and with all the playing time KLS and Collier are getting I expect big things from them next season.
