That’s great news! Although, as DE points out, they’re awash with point guards. It appears that Saniya may be playing off- or combo guard in the WABA, so she may find a spot that way.

Of course, Trader Bill probably has some tricks planned.

I wonder if this telegraphing a MoJeff trade to a team where she will be the starting PG.

Maybe. It's a training-camp contract at this point (Ruth Hamblin also got one).
Aces Ink Chong, Hamblin To Training Camp Contracts - Las Vegas Aces

The Aces, besides MoJeff and Kelsey Plum, also have Lindsay Allen, who spent last year with the Aces. She's a Reserved Player and players with three or fewer years of service -- like Lindsay -- are considered to be Reserved Players. The player’s prior team -- in this case, The Aces -- has exclusive negotiating rights. Allen is coming off a very good year in the Australian Leagues, which Coach Bill Laimbeer is certainly aware of. I fully hope and expect Lindsay to use that experience to jump start this year in the WNBA, whether it's for the Aces or elsewhere.

As someone mentioned, there's a good chance Trader Bill will open up slots on the roster before training camps. If so, Chong's versatility might help her. As for Ms. Hamblin, Laimbeer is always -- always -- looking for bigs.

Las Vegas, NV (February 19,2019)—The Las Vegas Aces announced today that the team has signed Saniya Chong and Ruth Hamblin to training camp contracts for 2019.

I'm glad she is potentially back in the league (she's gotta make the final cut). I didn't like the way she was cut from Dallas last year 5 games into the season for Leticia Romero, who did absolutely nothing to corroborate/justify the team's decision to release her.

Between Allen and Chong, it gives Laimbeer some solid resources to address the back-up PG slot if he makes a move using one of his star PG's in a trade. Stay tuned.

Unfortunately, I do not see Chong winning a backup PG competition with Allen. Allen is a natural PG with a good mid range game and penetration ability and Laimbeer liker her enough to bring her from the Liberty to the Aces. I saw her game evolve a bit on the Liberty and always liked her upside.

I'm with you, Scoop. I have no problem with her being cut, but to be replaced by someone whom they barely played left me with a bad taste.

Her numbers have been modest in the Adriatic league -- around 8/4/3 . But her team has gone from second-last in the league to tied for first. She knows how to win.

I hope she sticks this time. If she fails to make a WNBA roster THIS year, she will probably be relegated to making her bones overseas for the duration of her professional career. She's not getting any younger, and then there is the constant flow of top rated guards (from top 25 programs) coming out of college every year looking for a job in the W, and are more than willing to do so for rookie wages, which is always attractive to GM's.

There's got to be at least one team she can help. I wonder how many contract offers besides the Aces she received? I attended 3 Aces games last year (including their inaugural home game). I enjoyed them all. They had a decent crowd each time. I'll be attending several this year too. You can't beat the ambiance. The arena is inside the Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino. The set up is similar to the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville.

The Aces are a really fun team to watch. Moriah is as fun to watch as anyone, and I’ve always enjoyed Plum. Wilson just has this grace about her game. And it doesn’t hurt that Hamby is ONO’s sister in law.

So much for Ossining HS players being total wash-outs (according to some BY'rs). Glad to hear that Saniya has been signed to a Pre-Season contract. This, along with the recent success that AEH is having as a starter at Miss State, and Shadeen Samuels success at Seton Hall, along with Aubrey Griffin (UCONN), Kailah Harris (Seton Hall), and Jaida Strippoli (Army), most of us can all finally see how successful the Ossining HS Girls Basketball program really is.
