This means that he will go through training camp, and the Pacers will have the option to either convert to a two way (upward of $500k per year), or waive him and keep his G League rights (probably around $50k per year with a bonus if he stays on the roster for more than a few months)

Congrats Samson!

Could work well if he's paired with a good and selfless point guard.
I still think that he would work himself into a lineup in his first year to two years, maybe getting some minutes in the NBA after he continues to grind like he does.. Didn’t like to read about Ashworth. He seems like a really nice kid, hope it works out for him.

Indiana has used all their two way contracts currently, so it's less likely they'll convert him. He'd have to really shine and then they'd waive one of the other guys.

I posted a few times that Johnson if he cleaned up a few things would have a chance to find some type of role on an nba team. He is either a true 6’9” maybe 6’10” super athlete.

His athletic ability for his size is not common. How quickly he jumps not only on his first jump but on those occasions where a player has to go after a rebound twice. Those are skills that cannot be taught. Maybe he never makes it onto an nba roster.

But I am certainly rooting for him.

Rooting for him, but in today's NBA, I don't see it. The hands.........

I just can't wrap my heads around him averaging 3.5 rpg in 19 mpg. That's just bad. He's springy, he can finish inside, he can block and affect shots, but the rebounding just isn't there.

He wasn’t very good, center is one of the positions we knew needed to be upgraded this off season to get back in championship contention, more (improved) Reed and Reibe is hopefully back to that standard.

Good kid, contributed on an all time great roster to a championship, loyal in a time where loyalty is fleeting. He should appreciated for these qualities.

Our centers were more than fine last season. The problem was on the perimeter.

Samson was the primary reason we outplayed Florida in the first half. He was inspirational in disrupting their bigs and perimeter play. His third foul early in the second half causing him to sit for much of that half was as much of the reason UConn lost as the fact that our shooters went cold and their perimeter players found their rhythm. He was brilliant at the high hedge in the first half.

Samson outplayed Reed that game with ten points to five, ten rebounds to eight, and one block to zero.

His injury was a setback to his development. He only played two years for us as a result. He steadily improved over his time with us. His hands were not a problem. Experience was.

Foul trouble (and fouling too much while defending in general leading to a lot of FTAs) was one of the reasons that the centers were, in fact, not fine.

But there wasn't a lot of fine anywhere on the defense last season.

Only had one game where foul trouble required significant minutes from Singare.

Yep to allowing ft attempts from fouling.

Otherwise felt Samson and Reed made up for a lot of the porous defense on the perimeter.

Reed and Samson with AK, Newton, Castle and Cam would be a championship team. Not certain the same thing could be said plugging in Donovan for Reed with last years players.

No doubt his injury sophomore year stunted his development. But he was here for 4 years and wasn't injured freshman year when he played some and got to go up against Sanogo/Whaley in practice all season. But you're right he only played a lot his junior and senior seasons. Although I think most college players only play expended minutes for no more than 2 seasons in college. Either you're really good and go pro after 1 or 2 years or you improve and then play more when you're ready. Probably not a large percentage of 4 year guys who start all 4 years these days.

His injury was during his sophomore year. Remember he started the first game, got hurt, and then Karaban came in and started the rest of the season? His freshman year he played sparingly.

As a Sophomore in 2022-23: Earned the starting power forward job for the season opener against Stonehill, in which he scored 7 points and grabbed 3 rebounds in 16 minutes, but a foot injury then kept him on the sidelines until late January. Played sparingly the remainder of the season… Appeared in 12 games, averaging 0.9 points, 0.8 rebounds, shooting .500 overall and 1.000 from the foul line.

As a Freshman in 2021-22: Appeared in 13 games, averaging 1.7 points, 1.1 rebounds… Shot a team-leading field goal percentage of .556… Had season-highs of 5 points, including a three-pointer, 6 rebounds, and 3 blocks in 20 minutes of playing time against Grambling State.

Probably would have a better option if he could learn how to rebound and not foul.
