Ok.You run the ball up the middle to make sure the FG attempt is from the middle of the field rather than on one of the hash marks.

Even if it was an absolutely horrendous call, I’m guessing that every OC has a couple of wtf calls every game. Sammis as a 1st year guy will have his share. Personally guessing Sammis is a pretty quick study, and by end year 2 will hold his own against top shelf OC’s. And the call wasn’t as bad as you make it out to be, Mr Diesel had a fair assessment of why that call might have been the right one.Remember nitpick when it’s 3rd and 7 again or a similar situation occurs and the game is on the line. You won’t be saying nitpick then. The play call was horrendous. We all make mistakes and learn as we go. The outcome of the game has swept that horrendous play call under the rug and made to be deemed “trivial”.
Uconn to a P4!
I’m not bashing Sammis. I alluded to the fact that everyone makes mistakes no matter what.Even if it was an absolutely horrendous call, I’m guessing that every OC has a couple of wtf calls every game. That's just it. The game wasn't on the line. Freeman needed a make. I was thrilled they just ran it to keep it centered and let him get one through. Don't make a mountain out of a mole hill. It is (and was) trivial. Nice kick, Chris!Remember nitpick when it’s 3rd and 7 again or a similar situation occurs and the game is on the line. You won’t be saying nitpick then. We can agree to disagree. It’s a nice kick, Chris, regardless. Otherwise, it’s a horrible play call at a horrible time and your sending a poor message by prioritizing a single player’s confidence over the entire team’s need for the same. That's just it. It was third and long, right? So what should he call in a play calling situation in which the defense has an advantage? A pass play no doubt, which will be under pressure because defenses blitz on third and long. So now Evers is under pressure, does he make a completion? Maybe. Is there holding? Sack? Fumble or Interception? Or.. on the first drive of the game, do you play it conservative, see what defense the other team's DC dialed up on that 3rd and long play call and make note of it for the rest of the game. See if you can get a push at the OL, hit a hole and pick up the first down and worst case, get some points on the board.I’m not bashing Sammis. Imo, there is No justification for purposely calling a play that’s more tailored to setting up a FG, regardless of the thinking behind that, and not going for a Touchdown.
The “assessment” ur referring to is based upon getting ur kicker a better look for his confidence rather then going for the touchdown in the 1st qtr and when ur team needs the confidence more then the kicker alone does! That’s never the right call in the 1st Qtr!
I suspect that Buffalo will do more to expose UConn's weaknesses than FAU did. The question will be whether or not UConn can effectively adapt.
I am also amused by the reaction here to Sammis. One week he is clueless and the next week he is a wise sage employing the KISS principle. Sometimes the opponent can make you look good. Let's see what Saturday brings. Hopefully another step forward.
All week in practice I'd be installing and practicing the hell out of the RPO, fake hand off, QB roll out and hit a receiver when the player shadowing Evers commits to Evers running. Dink and dunk all day long.
The same play UConn ran against duke down the right side of the field and the same play UConn ran against FAU on the TD which got called back for a weakside lineman being 3" too far downfield.
check this out at the 6:05 mark. I'm too old to care how to learn to snip a video or start it at a specific time. This play will need to be played well against UB.
Maybe because at Duke in that same position, 3rd and 7, we threw the ball and he sensed they'd be expecting it again. He took a chance. I don't agree with the call but perhaps there's a rationale we weren't aware of.Why were you running it up the middle on 3rd n 7 in the 1st Qtr. I’m just at a loss of how a run play is considered justified in that scenario.
Always a possibility. But as fans, we get to pick apart bad play calls like that.Maybe because at Duke in that same position, 3rd and 7, we threw the ball and he sensed they'd be expecting it again. He took a chance. I don't agree with the call but perhaps there's a rationale we weren't aware of.
That's why we keep clicking!I am also amused by the reaction here to Sammis. One week he is clueless and the next week he is a wise sage employing the KISS principle.
