I don't know if a thread with this subject has ever been presented. If so Then I apologize. For those Boneyarders who will be disappointed if Collier does not win the ROY award, this will fit right in with the mood. WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE SAD LINES IN A SAD SONG?
Some of mine are:
The Skyliners-The Loser Someone has to win, someone has to lose, that's the way it has to be, but why does the loser always have to be me?
The Sonics-This Broken Heart Other lips may say they love you, other lips may press on thine, but no other heart can love you, like this broken of mine.
The Fleetwoods-Mr. Blue I must tell you, while you paint the town, a bright red to turn it upside down, I'm painting it too, but I'm painting it blue.
Various artists-You Win Again This heart of mine, could never see, what everybody knew but me.

The Righteous Brothers-For Once In MY Life I've given up on schemes, cause every one fell through, I've given up so many things, don't ask me to give up on you.

The Miracles-Tracks Of My Tears Take a good look at my face, you'll see my smile looks out of place, if you look closer it's easy to trace, the tracks of my tears.

Bacall sang this is a Bogart movie: He smacked her in the choppers and her tears flowed like rain (now that's a sad song)

"My dog died yesterday, and left me all alone.
The finance company stopped by today and repossessed my home.
And I'm down to seeds and stems again, too."

The Righteous Brothers - You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling - "You never close your eyes anymore when I kiss your lips"

J. Fred Knobloch - Why Not Me - "I'll take another wedding in stride. Here's another June wedding. I'm sittin' on the bride's side... again

Gary Lewis and The Playboy's - This Diamond Ring - "Who wants to buy this diamond ring?"

Billie Holiday - Without Your Love - "I rode the crest of a wave with you beside me, now who's to guide me? I'm lost at sea without your love."

Harry Nilsson - Without You - "Well, I can't forget this evening, or your face as you were leaving, but I guess that's just the way the story goes."

Billy Strayhorn - Lush Life - "I thought for awhile, that your poignant smile, was tinged with the sadness,
of a great love for me. I guess (Ah, yes, ) I was wrong...again. I was wrong. Life is lonely...again."

Dave Mason - We Just Disagree - "There ain't no good guy, there ain't no bad guy. There's only you and me, and we just disagree."

It happened on a Saturday night
My love and I had just had a silly fight
She got into her car and angrily drove away
Neither of us knew then, that she would never see another day

Tove Lo -- Habits - Pretty much the whole song, but I especially like this:
"Staying in my play pretend
Where the fun ain't got no end
Can't go home alone again
Need someone to numb the pain"

J Frank Wilson and the Cavaliers - Last Kiss (also covered by Pearl Jam)
"I held her close, I kissed her our last kiss
I found the love that I knew I would miss
But now she's gone, even though I hold her tight
I lost my love, my life that night."

You can really take your pick of any line from Jason Isbell's "Elephant," but I'll go with this one:

I buried her a thousand times, given up my place in line
But I don't give a damn about that now
There's one thing that's real clear to me
No one dies with dignity
We just try to ignore the elephant somehow
We just try to ignore the elephant somehow
We just try to ignore the elephant somehow
Somehow
Somehow

Alert The Medic - The Hands That Held Me Back

Spare me your secrets
I know all I know
The hands that have held me back
Were always my own

Marshall Tucker Band - This Ol' Cowboy:

Well I'm sittin' down in San Anton'
Waiting on an eight o'clock train
My woman left me here last night
Things ain't been quite the same
I gotta get back to Dallas
And tie up a few loose ends
I'm gonna work a week make a hundred dollars
Aw and hit the road again
So I don't want you to think
That you're the first one
To leave me out here on my own
Cause this ain't gonna be the first time
This ol' cowboy spent the night alone

Nothing sadder than this Country Christmas song! Have your tissue box handy.

Sir, I want to buy these shoes for my mama, please
It's Christmas eve and these shoes are just her size
Could you hurry, sir, daddy says there's not much time
You see she's been sick for quite a while
And I know these shoes would make her smile
And I want her to look beautiful, if mama meets Jesus tonight

We drank a toast to innocence
We drank a toast to now
We tried to reach beyond the emptiness
But neither one knew how

She said she's married her an architect
Who kept her warm and safe and dry
She would have liked to say she loved the man
But she didn't like to lie

Just for a moment I was back at school
And felt that old familiar pain
And, as I turned to make my way back home
The snow turned into rain

From Linda Ronstadt's Long, Long Time.

Love will abide, take things in stride.
Sounds like good advice, but there's no one at my side.
And time washes clean, love's wounds unseen.
That's what someone told me, but I don't know what it means.
