Ryan Van Demark Promoted to East West Shrine Bowl

Ryan Van Demark has received an important upgrade from the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl to the more prestigious Shrine East West Bowl. That’s a very good sign of how he’s been viewed during training as well as the effort and the influence of his agent in pushing for the promotion.
As you can see below, there’s a significant upgrade in the quality of the OT competition in the Shrine. Good luck Ryan. We’ll be watching Thursday night Feb 3rd at 8pm EST on the NFL Network!!

Most college teams put their best, most mobile linemen at tackle. But many lack the size, reach or foot speed for the position at the NFL level so they move inside. You are probably right that their practice performance is the most important metric (I've heard some senior personnel don't even stay for the game), but I'll bet many OTs will get snaps at guard or even center if that's what the scouts want to see..

Congrats to him. I would say this gets him in contention as a draft pick and or priority Udfa.

A player gets in this game because several scouts and teams want to see that player up close.

Actually Pal, both at the Shrine and the Senior Bowl it's all about the practices. All the evaluations are made before the game and the scouts aren't even in attendance for the kickoff. The key here is he gets to perform in practices with some very good D Linemen and be compared against an impressive crop of OT's. He'll come away from the week with a much clearer assessment of his draft potential and also learn what he needs to improve upon before UConn's Pro day--but you already knew all that--lol.

-> A tackle I will be watching closely over the weekend is Ryan Van Demark from UCONN. He’s a beast with strength and tenacity for the position. I like the way he stays balanced as a blocker, and Van Demark does not overextend himself when going for a block against a speedier rusher. When facing power rushers, Van Demark can handle himself with power. He also loves to put an extra shot in whenever he can, within the rules of course but just know Van Demark plays with a mean streak which I love.

Van Demark could be a fine developmental prospect on the offensive line. Imagine his power, work ethic and athleticism getting honed by an offensive line coach like Mike Munchak. His combination of skill, coupled with Munchak’s coaching, could at least turn Van Demark into a solid swing tackle or even a starter in the NFL. <-

Scouts keep their evaluations close to the vest but Ryan is getting very good comments from the NFL media contingent. Trevor Sikkema is the Senior NFL Draft analyst, and on-camera host for The Draft Network. His prior mock drafts have been some of the most accurate. He’s got some high praise for Ryan.
