#UConn: DeAndre Daniels opts for the NBA Draft, but guard Ryan Boatright will return to the Huskies for his senior season.

I'm looking forward to one more year of The Boat Show and watching other teams crumble in it's wake!!!

A scout had the following to say about Boatright to the New Haven Register's David Borges earlier this year:

"He should stay in and have the capability of having a great year next year. He could be one of the dominant players in that league and would eliminate any questions."

If he wants to make the NBA, he's made the right choice. Boatright and UConn fans both win on this one.

Happy to hear this - it's Boat's team to lead next year. Should be great to see the other players develop around him.

Yes, this is definitely what I was expecting, if I had my choice of DD or Boat staying I definelty would have chosen Boat. DD is a laid back quiet leader and thats fine, but our young guys will need a fiery emotional leader which Boat obviously is. Hamilton will pretty much be DD next year, I expect Boat to elevate everyones play get into guys faces when he has to.

Without Giffey, and Bazz, DD to some extent we will be missing rebounds. Where do they come from?

Someone else will get them. UCONN boxed out to give guards rebounds this year. They may continue this practice, or maybe find out that Phil/Amida developed and/or Facey has a nose for it.

A healthy and improved Brimah is huge for us now. Boy would Myles Turner be a GREAT fit now or what? Sorry couldnt resist. Boat,Purv,Tsam and Cassell are going to be a national nightmare next year. Boat and Tsam can cause absolute chaos on defense which will be fun to watch. Are we playing Duke in December? Feel sorry for any freshmen guards that have to face us early next year lol!

I actually think we'll be a better rebounding team next year than we were this year. Daniels is obviously going to leave a huge void at the four, but Facey is actually a superior rebounder. I'm assuming Nolan improves on the glass with another off-season in the weight room, and Brimah's a kid who's just going to continue to get better with every game. Hamilton is a lengthy, bouncy athlete at the three, and Omar's proven to be able to rebound at a high level for his position when healthy. Same deal with Purvis. Boatright's proven to have a knack for digging out tough rebounds in traffic despite his height.

With Dre's departure, I envision a more prototypical UConn lineup with two big's next season. That may or may not be ideal from a spacing and match-up standpoint, but it's certainly something that should improve our rebounding numbers.

I'm guessing he means he can be a similar player. Hamilton is only an inch or so shorter than Daniels and can shoot from outside, so it's not a wild idea that they will fill similar roles.

How do you know if he is even close to getting his degree next year (2015)?
Most non athletes take 5 years to graduate these days and most athletes take 12 credits a semester to stay eligible so he may need another full year to graduate
Also how many potential NBA draft picks do we talk about here on the Boneyard where we are even talking about how it would be good for them to get their degree? Not a good omen.
He will have to totally kick it up a notch and play like the tournament Boat, not the first half of the season Boat.
A player with his lack of height (5'9") will have to be a play making machine (not SG) if he has any hope of getting drafted next year and getting noticed by the scouts.

70% of students graduated from UConn in 4 years according to the 2014 fact sheet. Boat can take multiple classes for free over the summers, which most students can't do. If he wasn't on pace to graduate and decided to leave this year it would have hurt the APR. Therefore, I think it's very likely he is on pace to graduate.

This will be a real test for KO. He has to make sure the team's best player is excited and motivated next season. Sounds like Boat had his heart set on leaving and has probably had enough of school. He is proably feeling like he's at the bottom of the roller coaster when just a few weeks ago he was at the top.

Since the announcement, the only thing that I've been able to think about is: What is Ryan going to say on the mike about the NCAA when he's on the podium next year holding up the trophy?

Should be really good...

Yes on the first one, not a worry on the second. If there's one thing that kid is, it's motivated to get to the league. Now, I hope that doesn't cause him to regress into sophomore Boat where he is all about scoring. I think KO convinced him last year that other things are going to be what gets him in the league, not filling it up every night at the expense of the team.

For me, the first tell that KO might have a future in this coaching thing was last year when Bazz and Boat coexisted pretty well from the get-go. Seems silly now, but I was concerned that whoever had the ball when they crossed mid-court would be the one launching a 3.
