Not a great shooter but gives some guard depth, definitely not top of list but could be a fallback.

First time in the NCAA tourney after 30 years, a close loss to a F4 participant, and 3 guys transfer. This portal is going to make teams like Rutgers perennial bottom dwellers, which means it will have very little impact on Rutgers.

KO recruited Mathis, who chose Rutgers over runner-up UConn with a tweet that memorably said, "Bet on yourself and double down."

Montez Mathis would be a gritty, big guard who is lauded for his sticky defense and could defend the opponent's best offensive player, be it a guard or a smaller wing.

However his offensive profile is not what we need at the guard spot. I'd look elsewhere, but he's a quality player.
