I'd assume we are also not putting all our eggs in the ACC basket...just in case.

For their sake, one would hope so.

This could be RU leaking unconfirmed rumors to keep up with the numerous unconfirmed rumors out there pertaining to UConn.

Although i tend to doubt RU to Big10 is serious, it would be a tough blow for UConn if RU went to the ACC. Sure, UConn might be the 15th team, but is there a 16th anywhere in sight?

I imagine that Rutgers' conversation with the B1G went something like this:

Rutger's should be doing exactly that, so should UConn. It's game on, and both schools want to get a rose from the bachelorette. Hopefully we both land in one of the two conferences. Together is or separate leagues, whatever. I hope all the BE schools find a spot to land (once we've landed of course ;) ). Not likely they all do, but would hate to see anyone left out.

Just glad Herbst is being aggressive on this. It's sink or swim time for everybody.

The ACC will stay at 14 before adding those schools.
14 is a bad number for scheduling, 16 makes things very easy and allows for round robin scheduling. plus, if the SEC and Pac go 16, I can't see the ACC or B1G sitting idly by at lower numbers.

Why not? Why would they deliberately lose a ton of cash just to get up to some arbitrary number?

Because 14 is a bad number for scheduling. Plus if the other conferences go to 16 they have more content to sell to more more TV's which means more $$$$$.

None of this really matters that much in the short term. Even if the ACC goes to 16 teams... the elephants in the room are still the SEC and Big 10. The Big 10 could still add Syracuse and Pittsburgh in three years time...

Who knows.... in 5 years that could seem like chump change... if Big 10 schools are pulling in 30-40m in tv/internet money a year.

The one thing that can change this whole thing with the ACC/B-10 talk is if the B-10 decides they want to make a push into the NYC tv market. They need 2 of the 3 of Syracuse, Rutgers, UConn to capture a majority of the market. The 2 of the 3 that are left are the 2 that actually make up a fair amount of the tri-state viewing market. It sure would be interesting to be a fly on the wall in both the Big 10 and ACC conference hq's right now.
