Coaches getting suspended for verbal abuse?? I'm officially old and out of touch. How the heck does a coach get railed for that. JC must be happy he's retired.

I don't think it's coincidental that it's Rutgers again. It shouldn't be shocking. I'm sure they're keeping a closer eye on all of their coaches and are going to be overly sensitive for a while.

They announced they would be reviewing tapes of all of their teams' practices. So this is not shocking.

If every college did the same thing over the next week, there would be about 1,000 vacancies by next Saturday.

Brecht's an intense guy but he's also a pretty well respected young coach. He did great things at Siena and my understanding is that he was well liked there. I would imagine if he gets the time he can turn Rutgers around. If this is really just yelling then file it under the continued pu**ification of america.

Amazing how crappy records and coaching abuse is becoming RU's MO.

Can you say lack of institutional control?

Parents used to refuse to go to watch their kids practice because of the verbal tirades JC would unleash, along with the language. However many of his kids required this tough teaching. With all that's going on, JC retired at the right time,'it' was showing up more and more during games later in his coaching career.

I disagree. People don't put up with bullsh!t like they used to. Those that put up with it were the true .

You're talking about yelling in sports. To say that a kid who listens to a coach that yells at him is a "true " is certainly an odd position to take. I'm guessing you never had much success when it came to sports.

There is a key distinction to be made, though, between cussing and personally attacking a player. I'm not sure which side of the fence this guy falls on, but I don't believe any player should have to endure attacks of their character from their coach.

You would not have enjoyed sitting court side at Uconn between 1986 and 2011.

For me, the line is drawn at homophobic and racial slurs. I don't have much of a problem with a coach questioning a kids work ethic, toughness, etc. Even something along the lines of "f'in pu**y, or "motherfu**er" is fair game to me, although I'm not sure I'd condone that type of behavior if I were an AD. However, there are certain lines an employee of a university cannot cross - it would be impossible to know whether Calhoun crossed it or not without having witnessed practice on a daily basis. It's all subjective.

I'm sure that if the Mike Rice situation didn't happen we wouldn't even know who the Rutgers lacrosse coach is.
