He's getting paid too much to quit that soon voluntarily, he won't have turned the program around in that time such that he's getting an offer from a better program and the University won't be able to afford the buyout.

He's a longer term hire, just like Edsall was. For very similar reasons (except the lack of money to pay a coach with).

If Rutgers is stepping up their commitment to FB, which seems to have been the sticking point, it can work. Bill Belechick respects him.

Even if Schiano doesn't work out, he has forced Rutgers to invest in football to compete in the Big 10. So, the guy who follows Schiano will be in a much better place than they would be right now.

Over

It will take him 4 years to show a real pulse. It is clear he didn't want Rutty to be his final gig. He will have to turn it around if he wants to take a bigger gig. I bet he may be willing to cut a few corners to get there quickly.

Rutgers should be able to compete and Schiano as much as anybody should know how do to it at that place. But.......my god! Nothing ever seems to go right there........

While we all knew this day was coming, it's really hitting home now.

The only school that has hemorrhaged more money than UConn over the last 10 years just committed to paying a .500 coach $32MM over 8 years. Additionally, they approved $7.7MM/year for his staff.

While I don't think BC will pay a new coach anywhere near that type of package, they will likely have to up their spend in order to compete as well.

These are 2 former PEER schools that have now joined the arms race.

For anyone that is against us joining the Big East, this is a clear signal that there really was no choice for UConn

Officially Edsall isn't doing that bad considering we only gave him a years subscription to the jelly of the month club. You do get what you pay for.

How do you figure? He has the lowest VORC than any other coach in FBS.

7.7 million for assistants is the key number. We are paying 1.8 million. That is a school we were going head to head against and beating on the field just a few short years ago. It really puts the P5 advantage into perspective. They are officially out of our stratosphere. UConn needs to get our number into the 2.5 million range.

More depressingly.. Schiano's salary alone would more than pay for the entire UConn coaching staff, head coach included.

Hence you get what you pay for. We pay with jelly of the month club subscriptions and other teams are giving average coaches 4-5 million a year.

I can't believe how much money they are paying that guy.
They are rolling in dough from winning the CR lottery. Will it transfer into wins in the B1G? Probably not, but they may at least be middle of the pack.

I’d say it much more likely that we average 2.5 wins each of the next two years.

Well, kinda...

Rutgers wants Greg Schiano to help raise the tens of millions needed for new football facilities

>>In that agreement, Rutgers said at least half of the cost of the expected $150 million project would have to be raised from private sources before Rutgers commits to building it. And Schiano will be expected to bring in a large chunk of that money, along with Rutgers Athletic Director Pat Hobbs, according to the language of the proposed terms that led to the agreement.

The university acknowledged that to successfully compete in the Big Ten football conference, “a new football operations center and adjoining multi-sport indoor practice facility would be both necessary and desirable.” However, the university in the language indicated it would not write a blank check.

“As Head Coach, you will aid and assist the Director in efforts to obtain private funding commitments to cover the final projected cost of said facilities,” according to the language.

If the project reaches a private funding commitment level of at least fifty percent of the total projected cost, Rutgers agreed the university would then launch the Board of Governors Finance and Facilities Committee approvals’ process required to actually start construction.<<

Really sucks to see RU in a position we could have been if there were more than more 5 brains cells shared among our illustrious leadership. Such wasted momentum and opportunity frittered away by incompetence.

7.7 million for assistants? If Schiano hires the right OC and DC, I see him at least being able to get them a middle of the road B1G team.

This is effectively a lifetime deal for both sides. Rutgers can't afford to fire Schiano, and no school is buying out that contract to steal Schiano from Rutgers.

If the outcome of the Penn State, Ohio State and Michigan State scandals taught us anything, it is that being part of the cover up works when it comes to abuse scandals. Schiano clearly knew what was happening at Penn State, kept his mouth shut, and now he is set for life.

Nah, we could literally hire anyone and it would be an upgrade.

Over. Rutgers is set up to be competitive in the future with their resource commitment. The P5 difference in coaches pay vs the others are incredible. Even Alabama and Clemson's strength coach makes $600K. The $300K coordinator pay from UConn would be laughed at by the better coaches in the P5.
