To hear the kings pitch. He has a player option of 19 million next year and the kings want him back but he said he has made enough money in his lifetime and wants to go to a place that is best for him (bball-wise). Sac definitely had a good thing going and as long as Rudy isn't asked to be the #1 option he can thrive.

They want him back at $19M? Last I heard he was all but guaranteed to stay another year in Sacramento but for that money the Kings would rather he didn't.

I mean I like Rudy Gay but that's right around the same money LeBron will make next year.

He'd be dumb not to take the cash.

Or he could opt out and sign a longer deal for more money.

uh.........really? Khan is no longer a GM. No one else is that dumb. 19 million is double what he will ever make again in a season, there is zero chance he walks away from it thinking he will make more money somewhere else.

yeah he can sign a longer deal after the season too, and if he has a good season he'll command more money when he's a free agent next year.

turning down that kind of payday is not something he should do, IMO. a bird in the hand and all that.

Billy King is that dumb, but he doesn't have the cap room to give Rudy a max deal...

I doubt Rudy's floor is 9.5 million. No one has any idea how he will play next year. He could very well turn back in the inefficient Rudy Gay he was late in his tenure with the Grizzlies and when he was with the Raptors. If I were him, I'd rather take an Eric Gordon deal (4/58) or possibly even a Nic Batum deal (4/44) but that's just my humble opinion.

I always view Rudy's NBA career like a Carmelo-light.

Great individual talent, but simply put you're not winning with him on your team as he doesn't make anyone around him better.

yea Rudy's situation is kinda similar to the one Richard Jefferson had a few years back. Jefferson opted out of the last year of his contract at $15M, then signed a longer deal with the Spurs for 4 years/$38M. Rudy's coming off a 55 game stretch with the Kings where he averaged 20/5/3 and looked more like the player he was during his peak years with the Grizz when he and Gasol led them to a #4 seed in the West while Randolph was out most of the year injured, and not like the inefficient chucker that led to him being traded from both the Grizzlies and the Raptors. Rudy definitely won't see a deal paying him $19M again, but he might try to bank on a GM giving him a nice deal and hoping that he plays more like the player that closed out the season in Sacto.

Josh smith signed a 4 year 54 million dollar contract last season. There will always be teams that overpay for talent/potential. Bobcats would pay 10+ million for Rudy. Some teams have to throw extra money at players to have them come. Not every team is like the Lakers/Knicks
