Round 1 Friday games thread

(With 500+ posts and 22+ pages in the Round 1 thread, does it make sense to start a “part 2” thread for Friday games of round 1???)

Which conference do you hope implodes the most today? My vote is the SEC.
My vote is usually the SEC too but this year they've struggled enough. I hope the big ten falls flat on their faces.

A Purdue early round exit would be equally sweet. One of those cases where I love their coach and program but the fans.....entitled and why???

I generally love when the ACC blows up - weaken it so they need to increase their basketball brand.

Not sure I have any issues with other conferences.

Then you must be happy because the Acc looks grossly overrated.
Nobody outside of Dook is really any good. And Dook can’t shoot. Hopefully a team with more horses can take advantage of that

Right now with PN out, teams are doubling Boozer. And yeah, if you can shut down Evans, they're then pretty limited shooting. They have some very good defenders, but can be shut down offensively.

Duke type fans without the winning championships.

Carolina with Wilson was good. I would have picked them to maybe surprise and go far because that huge lineup is just too hard for most teams to match up with.

Looking forward to see Santa Clara University take down Kentucky.
Go Broncos! I have several friends who went there, from my time living in the valley. They had a pretty solid team back then.

By my tally, here is where the “Big Four” stand this morning (#bids, First Four, Thursday, total, total pct, teams remaining…)

SEC 10 1-0 3-1 4-1 .800 9
B10 9 n/a 3-2 3-2 .600 7
ACC 8 0-2 2-1 2-3 .400 5
B12 8 n/a 2-1 2-1 .667 7

Let me know if you see any errors.

Rupp Rafters would have an absolute meltdown if Squid advances and they get knocked out by Santa Clara in round one.
One of my biggest failings is lurking on other boards after L's. But I love it. Especially RR. The dysfunction is staggering.

But I've noticed I can get the same bang for my buck just staying home in the old BY.

There is really nothing else like RR - it's a catastrophic meltdown after ever loss. There isn't a close second TBH. If they do move off Pope anytime soon, especially after this year which many are wanting, what other coach will want to go in there? They'll throw money at you, sure, but the magnifying glass would be unrelenting.

SEC is 5-1, not 4-1. Went 4-1 yesterday (11 Texas over BYU, 5 Vanderbilt over McNeese, 4 Arkansas over Hawaii, 10 Texas A&M over St. Mary's, lost 8 Georgia vs. SLU).

I'm going with the SEC stink. I think we have:
5 SEC games
5 Big 12
3 Big 10
3 ACC
3 Big East
16 games today with 19 power conference teams so 3 head-to-head
9 Iowa vs 8 Clemson
10 UCF vs 7 UCLA
10 Missou vs 7 Miami

"Big Four" is an error 😎

This whole dynamic has made me almost root for Calipari since they ran him off. Plus the fact he beat St John’s last year

Thanks. Missed the Arkansas win.

Yeah. It was somewhat painful to type that. But these are the only conferences with more than three bids. And they each have at least eight. Maybe “Big Bid” conferences? Or “Selection Committee Favorites”?

Fixed a couple…

SEC 10 1-0 4-1 5-1 .833 9
B10 9 n/a 4-2 4-2 .667 7
ACC 8 0-2 2-1 2-3 .400 5

Maybe it’s just me, but today’s slate of games is much more enticing than yesterday. I feel like they didn’t do the best job of scheduling. There are going to be a lot of must see round 2 games though, so looking forward to this weekend

Thurs/Fri = organzied chaos of delisciousness. Sat/Sun - more refined, seat to get to the coveted S16 and better games.
