Rothstein: CBB season verdict coming mid-Sept

I dont mind a delay if it means we get a season. I wouldnt mind starting up in January especially if theres a vaccine available which could make things a bit easier to pull off. May Madness?

Vaccine by January? Is that realistic? Safe, effective and widely distributed?

I hope so, but logistically it seems challenging.

What happens when 50% of people refuse it?
Ive often wondered this after the whole pandemic started. Will certain places of employment and schools require the vaccine? People keep talking like the vaccine will signal the end of Covid, but I guarantee not everyone will get it which means Covid will continue to spread. Also, once there is a vaccine, is that the point where the government backs off restrictions? Because I don’t think many people will jump at the first chance of getting a vaccine. There been a war on vaccine’s as it is, and given the short period of time this would be pumped out, I think people will be even less confident.

If these people were standing on a train track they would assume the bright light headed their way was a kid on a bicycle.

What do they expect to happen in four weeks that would allow them to make an informed decision?

Here is the correct decision, no need to wait:

"There is no chance of playing a college basketball season so long as large gatherings of people continue to be followed by uncontrollable outbreaks. We will continue to monitor developments in both the development of vaccines and best health practices that would allow us to proceed with reasonable confidence that intercollegiate sporting events can proceed safely. We would hope to resume play within two months after the spread of this virus is reduced to controllable levels.

We are currently reviewing contingencies for modified schedules for both the regular season and postseason tournaments and estimate that the latest a reduced regular season could begin is February 1st and that the latest the NCAA tournament could begin is April 1st. We plan on making interim announcements as events dictate."

If you believe Bill Gates globally, well off people will be vaccinated by the end of 2021, everyone else by the end of 2022. Most of the US population falls into the first group.

You can’t cure stupid.

Once the vaccine is out and is getting widely distributed, the government won't be able to maintain or enforce restrictions for long. There will be serious push back on restrictions and people will start (correctly) blatantly ignoring them, way more than now.

I don't understand why it matters if we have a vaccine? Positive players sit out/quarantine, negative players aren't a threat to anyone. Why do you need a vaccine?

Who pays to have everyone associated with every college team tested everyday?
