Starting to make plans to go to Kansas game Dec. 2 and could use any info / intel on best place / hotel to stay and how important is it to stay close to Field House...Restaurant recommendations would be great too...

Thank!

Paging @HuskyHawk...

He actually did one for the game 2 years ago. I couldn't find it but hopefully he can and just link to that thread.

We stayed in an Airbnb when we were there, so I’m not sure on hotels. The Wagon Wheel, though, is a must stop before the game. It is the Teds of KU, and had 85% UConn fans before the 2023 game in Lawrence.

Glad you appreciated the Wheel, it is indeed the Teds of KU, more or less. They have a few Ted's like places in town but it is closest to Campus, along with Bullwinkle's a block or two away, which is a bit of a frat bar. The Wheel is best when the weather is decent and the outside is open but fun regardless. We went to Johnny's across the river in North Lawrence (also a frat/sorority bar) last time, which we knew wouldn't have many UConn fans (aside from me). Lawrence Beer Company is highly recommended, walkable from downtown. Free State Brewery on Mass Street is iconic, but the beer is about the same as it was when I arrived in 1991. The Bottleneck has some shows around the date of our game. The Bottleneck | The Bottleneck

The bar at the Oread was fun last time, and it's the best hotel option but is probably sold out still. Not sure UConn will host an event there like last time. It's really the only walkable Hotel to AFH. Unless you have no interest in exploring the town, I would stay near Massachusetts and not on Iowa street or McDonald Drive off of the 2nd exit from I-70. Townplace Suites or Springhill Suites downtown are good options. Not sure where the Airbnb options are.

Lawrence is easy to navigate with numbered streets run east west and major north south streets are named for the states in roughly the order they entered the Union, ending at Iowa for some reason. No good reason to go west of Iowa, which is more or less nice suburbia, golf courses and Clinton lake.

Old Thread last year. Kansas Roll Call

Bring earplugs to the game -- seriously.

Midweek in Kansas with all these other Great games local this year is tough.
Even for me. Not making it this time. Weekend game would be worth it to visit friends and family plus catch the game. But for anyone who hasn’t been to AFH, worthy experience.
