I attended the tribute to Jen Rizzotti at the Governors mansion earlier this evening.

I got a chance to talk to Jen about why I became interested in women's basketball. I am able now to pin it down to the exact second.

Watch the while video, but at starting at the 1:31 mark, and going to the 1:37 mark is the play I saw which convinced me to become a fan.

I can't do it justice, but there was a moment when Jen was speaking, and she choked up when she started talking about her family. While fighting through tears and sobs, she said, "My family is so important to me, and you are all like family. I don't know...what it is ... about the mixture of genes, that made me this way... wanting to kick everyone's ass."

The place broke up.

Thanks for posting this. After being transferred to Connecticut in 1976, I chose to live in New Fairfield, CT and my daughters all graduated from New Fairfield High School. A few years later, I heard about this little point guard who starred on the NFHS girl's basketball team.

Then, in 1991, when Jen signed her LOI to UCONN, I became a big fan. And in 1995, I became a really, really big fan of UCONN Women's Basketball and Jen Rizzotti, in particular. Thanks to Comcast, CPTV and now SNY, I've never missed a game since,
even though I moved back to Chicago following my retirement.

I'm sure that had it not been for Jen being a New Fairfielder, I'd never have become
such a rabid fan of "our girls."

Congratulations, Jen!

Phil, thanks for posting. Great video of one of the all time UConn greats. She deserves all the accolades due a Hall of Famer.
Seeing Pam Weber, Nykesha Sales, et al brought back great memories of the team that got me hooked.

That is my feeling as well and, as Fiftyish said, this was the team that got me hooked; Jen had a lot to do with that, and this video made me remember why.
