Fantastic actor. There are few actors who could have pulled off a very difficult role like George Jefferson. The Jeffersons and All in the Family are two of very few good shows of an era where comedy was vanilla, non-threatening, and generally pretty stupid. You can count the classic shows from the late 70's on one hand. I think cable has dramatically improved TV programming, but The Jeffersons is one of the few shows from that time that would have been considered great in any era.

He was 21 years younger than his co-star, Isabel Sanford.

Yeah... Weezie was old enough to be his mom in real life.. weird... but it worked... I still catch The Jeffersons from time to time thanks to TV ONE... Loved the episode where they had the party for Bentley and he and Helen were dancing... hence the creation of the George Jefferson dance...
