RIP Spencer Davis | The Boneyard

RIP Spencer Davis

No disrespect to Spencer Davis, but calling the band the SDG is like calling the Beatles the Ringo Starr Four. Steve Winwood was THE talent of the group. Songwriter, lead singer, keyboardist (one of the best ever on the Hammond B3 organ). He was only 14 in 1963 when SD saw SW and his brother at a Birmingham club. I guess he realized a great talent when he saw it. SW left SDG in 1967 after their 2 biggest hits, "I'm a Man" and "Gimme Some Lovin" to form Traffic, then later supergroup Blind Faith, and then a distinguished solo career.

.-.
Has there ever been as many RIP's in one month on the BY?
Right on point Donald. This has been a really bad year for celebs. I think we notice this a lot more as we grow older. When we are young the only ones we notice are the James Dean's, the ones who go long before their time. Now that it's the ones we've grown up with who are leaving us it seems a little more personal (and scary).
