RIP Pearl.

All that talent and only 3 years in the NBA?? What happened???
 
He was as good a point guard at the college level (high school as well) as there was. May he rest in peace.

One of those players who was bigger than the game during his time in College. A Superstar. treat to watch from an incredible time in the BigEast.

Very sad. Great college player. Big part of the history of the Big East.
 
RIP Pearl, he was a basketball legend the first name you think of when you think of Syracuse, or the Big East. Despite what we all think of the Cuse this goes beyond sports this is life. Very sad, 52 is way to young to pass away, I hope he was able to go peacefully.

When you think BE you think Ewing, Mullins and Pearl - these guys helped formulate and create a league that will never be duplicated as far as rivals, talent and physical play
I am so blessed that UConn became a player in the league and in the end - one of the top programs

Yes, great player, RIP. My (wife's) cousin is a sportswriter who started his career in Syracuse after going to grad school at SU. He covered their hoops and got to know Pearl well. I knew a few days ago that this was coming. My cousin is pretty shook up. Way too young.
 
At a Big East tournament, maybe 15 years ago, I took a day trip to the Statue of Liberty. Had never been. Pearl was on the boat over, sitting next to me and I noticed him from his face and from the scar on his head from his recent brain surgery. I asked if he was Pearl and he said yes and I talked with him about the golden era of the Big East and those old Cuse teams and he couldn't have been any nicer. A gentle, humble, genuinely nice guy. RIP to the best true point guard I ever watched grace a college floor.

One of the greatest, helped build the Big East into the monster it became. Played the game the right way, tough on the court, very generous and humble to meet and talk to in person. Met him at a restaurant in Syracuse a few years ago, didn't care one bit I walked up to him in the middle of his meal, was still happy to chat even for one minute. Watching "Requiem for the Big East" puts it in perspective for the younger crowd that may now know him well. RIP.
 
Pearl was one of the 'founders' of the Big East and probably the most fun opponent guard to watch play. If you haven't seen him play its hard to appreciate, but he was a master of hip and shoulder gyrations performed in a smooth as jazz way. Just joy to watch him play and I can still hear a 'young' Raftery rhapsodize 'Pearl in the lane, with the KISS'.

One of my favorite games was UCONN at the Carrier Dome in 85 I believe. Earl Kelley, Roy Broxton, Eddie Williams and Tim Coles against Rony Seikaly, Pearl Washington and the Orange on a Saturday night. Every time Pearl touched the ball after a defensive rebound, 30,000+ people would rise as 1 expecting to see something special. We got them that night but the treat was watching Pearl on the fastbreak. RIP to Pearl and the old Big East.
 
My favorite college player of all time. He was at Cuse when I was playing hoops in high school and me and my backcourt mate would yell "Pearl show" any time we made a great play or went on a big run. I always remember the announcer at Cuse games during intros saying "from Boys & Girls high school in Brooklyn........Dwayne Pearl Washington". I'm sad for folks who aren't old enough to have seen him play. He was one of a kind.
 
And he's be bashed as a ayer nowadays for low FG%, not enough assists, etc.

He was a blast to watch and influenced a generation of kids who grew up watching him ball.
