RIP Whitey. Seems like we've lost a few big names lately, including Bob Gibson, Tom Seaver, Gale Sayers, Lou Brock, and others.

Imagine a pitcher who expected to - and more often than not did - pitch beyond the 5th inning. He didn't worry about pitch counts or getting his team to the 5th inning for the bullpen. And, a rough outing or two didn't send him to the IL for "tightness in his forearm" (aka, the pitching equivalent of benching him).
