RIP Marsiella Auriemma

RIP Ms. Auriemma. She was a character:

Geno Auriemma even hears it from his mother. “It’s O.K. if you lose,” Marciella Auriemma tells her Hall of Fame son. “You don’t have to win all the time. You win too much. That’s why people hate you.”

Very sad to hear this news :( Thoughts and prays to Geno and his family. Anyone know how old she was? She has been a fixture at UCONN and will be missed.

I just heard. Oddly enough, last night - for no apparent reason - I wondered about her and how she was doing.
What a life she had. How much love and pride she held for Geno. :)
I mentioned her last week when it was reported that Geno would miss Wednesday's practice (he arrived late) because he was in Philadelphia for a family matter. My first thought was that I hoped Marsiella was okay. Sounds like she died Thursday.

A dear and sweet lady from all we saw of her. She gave us our Geno and UConn will always be grateful, RIP dear lady, peace with your savior is at hand. God Bless.

Condolences to Coach G and the Auriemma family for the loss of the matriarch of their family. May Mrs. Auriemma be protected by the wings of Angels as she is taken home to our Father in Heaven. RIP Marsiella Auriemma.

Having had immigrant grandparents, I can imagine Geno's Mom probably thinking (and maybe saying), "Geno, how come you don't have a real job?"
But I'm certain she soon understood and must have enjoyed seeing his success and lamenting his Dad wasn't around to see it.
All the best to Geno and his family.........

Rest in Peace Ms. Auriemma. A UConn fan icon. She will be missed for sure.

RIP Nonna. What a great lady and a great life. Prayers for the Auriemma family.

Was struck by this line from Nonna's obituary and can personally testify to this.

" Mrs. Auriemma moved to Phoenixville, where she continued the tradition of never allowing anyone to leave her house hungry."

RIP Nonna.

RIP to Nonna. Coming from an Italian heritage, I know how hard it is to lose a mother. Geno is really feeling it.

The way I remember the Svetlana story is that Geno was grousing to his mom about "damn foreigners" ( specifically meaning Sveta), and his mom reminded him that "Geno, you are a damn foreigner!"

From Mike's column:
"One of the great highlights of my life came at my own wedding. Geno and Kathy were kind enough to come to the reception. My grandmother saw him and shrieked in broken English, “It’s a Geno! It’s a Geno!” I still have a picture of them from that day."

My deepest condolences to Geno and the entire Auriemma family. The memories will live on.
