RIP: Hulk Hogan Dead at 71

First off, I’m very sorry the guy died, he was an iconic entertainer in his field and his created character was fun. I once shared a steak dinner a couple tables away from him at Bern’s steakhouse years ago on a Gasparilla weekend in Sarasota. He was with his wife at the time and daughter, it was very nice to see them.

Some might say now is not the time to talk about this but Hulk did his own health in by doing anabolic steroids for 13 years, he has admitted to such. Not even a question that his heart and other health problems had a very likely direct line to that usage? Nothing in the news coverage that I saw even mentioned that so my question is should it have been covered if for no other reason than to let young people know the consequences of that usage along with other crazy “supplements” that continue among so many even today?

It’s important to be respectful to his family but people need to understand that the Superman body they saw artificially enhanced his career. Sammy Sosa and many others the same. This is an opportunity to make that point to many young people. (No they don’t already know this)
It’s sad that he should have been around for another 10-15 years and all of the other guys who used and probably continue to use steroids in Vince McMahon’s stable likely are going to be having terrible health problems coming up.
Question. Are these wrestlers drug tested? My guess is no.

I don't think you are nearly as clever or observant as you think. I'm quote confident almost every person who knows Hulk's story ows he juiced and that steroids are bad for you.
You're shining a light on anything.

And in spite of all the self-inflicted damage to his body, he still outlived Theo Huxtable by more than a decade.

Why would you drug test in a staged sport? It’s all theatrics. It anything they probably encourage it :).

Worth noting that while surviving Arnold also had a heart attack, and clearly used.

Not a mention. Sorry but it’s a big part of Hulk’s story.

Last night I caught an episode of Club Random with Bill Shatner. Even though he's sporting a huge belly, he's the healthiest looking 94-yesr old on the planet. Sounds exactly like he did in Boston Legal and just as sharp. He's gonna outlive Hulk's kids.

A towering figure in professional wrestling in the 80s/90s. His like was and is rarely seen even in the collection of unusual human beings that make up the professional wrestling business. As an entertainer, he was a singular presence.

His overall legacy as a human being is complicated to sort out - without going into messy details, opinions about him from his colleagues in the business are understatedly very mixed, and things weren't always perfect between him and parts of his family either.

But, RIP.

As the Undertaker would say, "Rest. In. Pieces."

Seems like writng a strongly worded letter to the editor of your local newspaper is what you need.
Nope, but for another take on his life, career and legacy a piece just published by Zirin on The Nation had a lot of things that I and I bet many did not know.

In terms of sports/cultural icons he was as big as it got in the 80s. He remained an icon in the 90s and has been culturally relevant ever since.

News of his passing took me back to my childhood, he was a huge part of it. I watched every Saturday morning and my older brother would practice wrestling moves on me as we watched. My first live sports event I can remember was the Hulk v. Paul Orndorff steel cage match at the Civic Center, I was like 7 or 8. We were front row and for a few years there our family would get a call that we have tickets and we're getting picked up for whatever WWF event was at the Civic Center, Coliseum and even an event at MSG...spoiled beyond belief. Hogan made wrestling enormous and he was larger than life.

RIP brother

Jesse contains his own set of baggage and question marks
And when he passes, people can make a full assessment. This thread is about Hogan. Hogan took money and career advancement by betraying a colleague and friend while harming the entire wrestling community.

Actually went to his store in Pigeon Forge, TN last week. The store is nothing special, but there are huge lithographs on the walls of significant matches and such.

He amongst others... Kanye, Kevin Ollie fall into the separate the art from the artist category.

R.I.P.
