Holy Flipping Crud!!! First Ozzy and now Hulk Hogan in the same week?!?!?! Losing icons of 80's is not how I wanted this month to go. What a shocker, but he, Mean Gene, Piper, Macho Man, the Ultimate Warrior, and Andre the Giant can have an all-out cage match in the sky now.

I was thinking the same thing but add Malcolm-Jamal Warner to the list of 80s icons lost this week. Comes in 3s supposedly.

I mean they both did tons of drugs. It's surprising they made it as long as they did

I never was a fan of the sport but as a Dad of 80’s kids . I watched a lot of it.
I became interested in the wrestlers themselves about 10 -15 year ago when podcasts were brcoming popular . A unique and colorful a bunch of characters that ever existed. There stories of a life on the road and getaways from angry mobs was fascinating.
A combination of carny , athlete , actor , , PR professional who was also an independent businessman. They created characters that became icons . In that modern morality play that was a conflict between good and evil often with blurred lines .
The Hulk character created by Terry Billea an aspiring rock musician was a force who transcended the sport
RIP

I met him once, in a "legal" situation involving the infamous sex tape. He didn't make a great impression.

He was huge! Even with a back brace and cane, he would have opened a can on me.

Legend.

Incredibly sad - and I believe there’s a way to separate the character Hulk Hogan from the person Terry Bollea for a lot of people.

On a side note - after Malcolm and Ozzy this week I said to my wife “these things come in 3’s, who’s the 3rd person??” nWo reference, maybe should’ve known.

In all seriousness, there’s no Rock, Austin, HBK, HHH, Cena, Taker etc if not for Hogan. RIP to an absolute LEGEND.

Damn rough week for the 80s when I grew up hogan , theo and ozzie. Cud prolly make the case the hulkster was one of the top 10-20 most recognizable names of the 80s. I was deep into wrestling during that time. And yup I thought same thing. Always comes in 3’s. Rip to all 3

Feel like this needed to be in here. Rest in peace, Hulkster!

This definitely belongs here. I was introduced to wrestling in my youth by my 90 pound grandmother which she loved to watch on Saturdays. Wrestlers included Chief Strongbow and George the Animal.

This progressed to Jimmy Snuka and others on Monday nights. But wrestling really exploded with Hulk. I loved him in Rocky 3. RIP Hulkster.

I can't say I was a huge wrestling fan, but my neighbor and friends were huge fans and gradually became a casual fan when I was a kid. I just remember my friends would never be able to play basketball or do anything on Saturday mornings until the WWF matches were over.

My older brother was somewhat a fan and he went to a little thing Hulk and I think 5 other wrestlers did at our high school. Those guys in the 80's, led by Hulk worked their butts off traveling to promote and grow their brand. I remember watching the growth over the years and each step it took.

Finally, everything I've ever heard from people who met him led me to believe he was a guy who had his demons, yes... but was nice, humble and very personable man.

OMG, yes, same here!!! I would watch wrestling with my grandmother, who didn't speak a word of English, but she could always follow the heel and when said heel got smacked around by the face, she's say "fatto bene" (basically "well done, you deserved it"). George the Animal Steele was another icon, he made crazy looked fun (along with Afa and Sika) before Mankind did it much later.

Yep, Saturday mornings around 11 o’clock I believe on channel 20 (wtxx)or channel 9 out of NY(wwor)—gorilla monsoon and Jessie the Body Ventura on the broadcast. They never had any big matches, though it was always a star versus a heel. I was too young to order the pay-per-view matches on my own so Saturday night‘s main event was a big thing back then- once every few months took the place of Saturday Night Live on NBC late night that’s where the big matches were. If anyone remembers that. I wud try to sneak to stay up. Ahhhh the things i used to do when i was 9. lol

RIp. Was it cardiac arrest ?

I grew up watching the Hulkster. He was an interesting person to say the least!. 71 is too young to go

I have a signed picture from him back in the day when I was a kid. Sad to see him go. He brought energy all the time. Couldn’t really watch him much since he was on cable and we were too poor to have it. RIP Hulkster!

On a separate note, Bruce Willis can’t talk or walk anymore with his declining mental condition. He may not have much time either and he was another icon you won’t forget.

My students told me about this at recess today. I had to check and, yeah. RIP to Hulk and sending my deepest condolences to the family in their hour of need.
