Hall of Fame coach John Chaney, a zone defense innovator who led Temple to 17 NCAA tournament appearances, has died at the age of 89.

A great loss. RIP Coach. John Chaney has a clear connection to the women's game and was a mentor to coach Vivian Stringer.

Very insightful interview.

.-.
I just remember attending a basketball camp back in the mid 80s and Coach Chaney and Coach Thompson were among some of the coaching members there. Coach Chaney gave a speech about academics and how players should be sitting at the front of the class, setting the tone for academic and athletic success. That speech moved so many of us campers. Lost some great coaches over the past few months. Chaney and Thompson's death hurts greatly.

Yes he was one of the great ones. He coached in a time when most of the male college basketball players actually stayed 3-4 years in school. You actually knew most of the players, and the coaches were household names.
