Colin Powell, military leader and first Black US secretary of state, dies after complications from Covid-19

Colin Powell, the first Black US secretary of state whose leadership in several Republican administrations helped shape American foreign policy in the last years of the 20th century and the early years of the 21st, has died from complications from Covid-19, his family said on Facebook. He was 84.

RIP - Powell was a rare find these days- someone able to admit his mistakes and hold himself accountable. Wish he had run for President in 2000 - might have been the first Republican I could have voted for.

A great soldier and a great American. He will always be remembered for that UN speech holding up that powder and saying Saddam had weapons of mass destruction. At least he admitted it was a mistake later in life. RIP

When flying home from a national tournament in St Louis with one of my girls soccer teams I had the pleasure of sitting across the aisle from Powell and had a few short conversations. He was a very nice guy and I thank him for his service to America. Upon departing in NY, I asked him for his autograph, we couldn’t find some blank paper so we decided to use a barf bag. It’s too bad that he was not consistent in his politics~he should have stayed out of that arena.
