97 years old. Few lived a life more accomplished or more full. Guy wins just about every bar telling story contest there is out there.

“I haven’t yet done everything, but by the time I’m finished, I won’t have missed much,” he wrote. “If I auger in (crash) tomorrow, it won’t be with a frown on my face. I’ve had a ball.”

Met him after a speech at the Smithsonian years ago. A very impressive individual even at that time when he was in his 70's. Lived an incredible life and did it with class and dignity. He talked about being the first to shoot down a jet aircraft. He was in his P-51 and the jet was running out of fuel and about to land. He described coming up from from behind and shooting off the Nazi's wing. Then he smiled and said, "Not very sporting of me." What a life. RIP.
