Visionary artist Christo has just died from natural causes. Anyone else catch The Gates? He did a lot of cool stuff, here's a good retrospective.

1760 Yellow umbrellas along Interstate 5 between LA & Bakersfield...

Oh BTW - on the same day in October, 1991 he and Jeanne-Claude unfurled 1340 blue umbrellas along a river valley in Ibaraki, Japan (~1 hour outside of Tokyo).

Drove by those umbrellas several times. Amazing! They were a lot bigger than they look in this picture.

I worked for a company that made those giant umbrella posts for several of his projects. I talked with him a few times. RIP Christo

Christo had an Arkansas River project here in Colorado that was abandoned. It was a contentious issue after it was proposed. A vast majority of locals who I spoke to did not support it. i and my friends certainly did not. Drilling holes into cliffs and hanging fabric across the canyon was not what people wanted. Glad it never happened.
